The Pavilion 85 Tournament was played each year to mark the end of the summer season and to commemorate the inauguration of the new pavilion in 1985 after the previous building was damaged by storms.

This is traditionally a tournament between the Chairman and the Men's team captain.  They select their teams in turn by the cut of a card to determine which Captain chooses a player first. Matches are arranged to ensure that each leg is evenly matched and there is always a bit of rivalry between the team players, which adds to the fun. The afternoon finishes with the presentation of a trophy and a traditional tennis tea provided by the participants.  

The Pavillion 85 trophy and name was retired in 2019 and the tournament was renamed The Peter Messenger tournament. Peter has been both a long standing member of the club and a was very well-respected and successful Club Chairman for over 9 years.
