Ilfracombe Tennis Club Mini's & Juniors have had some memorable experiences, both at the annual County Cup  representing Devon County & at the annual Devon County Championships competing against the best in Devon in their respective age groups.  2024 has been our best year & here we show you the recent history highlights...

2024

In March, Kit & Marlow represented Devon in the 9U County Cup.

Ilfracombe Old Boy Rodrigo represented Devon in the 18U Boys County Cup

In April, Dylan, Kit, Max & Ralph represented Devon in the 8U County Cup.

In May, Robin represented Devon in the 10U County Cup,winning the Group & going to the South Final in June.

In June, Robin represented Devon in the 10U County Cup South Final.
DAY 1 - A super day for the Devon 10U boys today even though the overall results weren’t quite as we hoped. We started against South Wales and got off to a flying start with both Rufus and Sammy securing fantastic wins at 3 and 4 singles. Robin and Tudor were next up against 2 players who were very highly ranked. Despite both gallantly doing and giving everything the South Wales boys were too strong. At 2-2 it was still all to play for with the doubles. Sadly the boys lost out in both matches by the narrowest of margins - in a 3rd set match tie breaker! Pranav and Rufus even had a match point - so so close and could easily have been 4-2 win to Devon. An extremely strong Surrey team were up next - and although the boys gave everything and tried all that they knew the Surrey team were a step up and the boys went down 6-0. The boys though are absolutely buzzing and can’t wait for tomorrow and the matches firstly against a winnable Oxfordshire and then Middlesex! Good luck Devon - be strong 💪
DAY  2 - A tough day yesterday for the Devon 10U boys team at Bromley for the final day of the County Cup Finals. Huge credit must be given to the boys as it was an incredible achievement to just reach the finals, but this weekend they came across 4 other very strong teams. Unfortunately they went down to both Oxfordshire and Middlesex yesterday 6-0. Although a little disappointing against Oxfordshire, it was excellent that they regrouped and raised their level one more time to challenge a very strong Middlesex team and were actually unfortunate not to win a rubber against them. Regardless of the results it was brilliant for the boys to see and play against the best players in the country at this age group, and a fantastic opportunity for them to learn, and push on with their own development. The support from the parents and families over the weekend was superb, and great to be one big team. We have a fantastic group of 10U players in the county which bodes so well for the future - well done boys!

The boys team were: - Tudor, Robin, Sammy, Rufus and Pranav , Huge thanks also to Team Captains Liam and Will.

In August at the Devon County Championships 2024 Grade 3, Marlow won the 9U Boys Singles title & the Doubles title with partner Hugo. Kit then won the 8U Boys Singles title, Max finihed runner-up, Dylan & Ralph joint third.  

Then, Robin & partner Rufus qualified for the 10U Singles & 10U Doubles Finals to be played on Saturday 31st August. In the finals Robin beat Rufus to win the 10U Boys Singles title & they won the Doubles title  together. Our most successful Devon County Championships with 5 County Championship titles

In September, at the Whirlwind Mini Masters Finals Ilfracombe had 4 player competing in RED (8U), 3 in ORANGE (9U) & one in GREEN (10U). In 8U CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 8U player Max who was crowned the Whirlwind Mini Tour  RED Mini Masters Champion for 2024 & club mate & runner-up Ralph & Dylan who finished third & won the leaderboard prize for finishing first on the Devon Leaderboard & Juliet for her first Mini Masters Championships. GO TEAM ILFRACOMBE!

In 9U, CONGRATULATIONS to 9U player James from Cornwall who was crowned the Whirlwind Mini Tour ORANGE Mini Masters Champion for 2024 & ILFRACOMBE player Kit who finished runner-up. Ilfracombe player Max, the RED Champion, won the leaderboard prize for finishing first on the Devon Leaderboard. Well done all & GO TEAM ILFRACOMBE!

In 10U, CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 10U player Robin  who was crowned the Whirlwind Mini Tour GREEN Mini Masters Champion for 2024. Well done Robin & GO TEAM ILFRACOMBE!

CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 8U player Kit who won the Devon County Championships Grade 3 8U Boys Singles event. Kit won all his six group matches to reach the semi-final where he won 10-8, then was lifted to win the final 10-1. What an amazing performance & year following his 5th place last year behind brother Robin who was then County Champion 2022 & clubmate Marlow who finished 3rd last year. Well done Kit!

CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 8U player Ralph who competed in his first ever Devon County Championships alongside clubmate & eventual County Champion Kit. Ralph won three of his group matches & missed out on the knockout round as the event went straight to semi-final. Ralph has got the Whirlwind Mini Masters Finals next alongside Kit & his performances are going from strength to strength. Well done Ralph!

CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 9U player Robin who finished runner-up in the 9U Boys Singles at the Devon County Championships. Congratulations to winner & County Champion Tudor, Robin's doubles partner for the 10U doubles earlier in the week! Well done Robin & well done to Ilfracombe 8U player Marlow who came second to Tudor in his group & would have qualified if the event went to quarter-finals. Well done boys & good luck in the 9U Doubles...

CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 9U Doubles pairing of Marlow & Robin who finished runners-up in the 9U Doubles at the Devon County Championships. Congratulations to winners & County Champions Tudor & Hugo. The boys are pictured with the 9U Girls Singles winner Pippa & runner-up Yolanda. That's it for the Ilfracombe Mini Juniors with one County Champion (Kit, 8U Boys Singles) & two runner-up finishes (Robin , 9U Singles, Marlow & Robin 9U Doubles). Well done Team Mini Ilfracombe!

 

Marlow & Robin competed in 9U Singles & Doubles & Phoenix in 14U Doubles. Robin achieved runner-up in the 9U Singles &  & also in the Doubles with Marlow partnering him

In August at the Devon County Championships 2022...

CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 8U player Robin (7) who won the 8U Boys Singles title at the Devon County Championships. Well done to runner-up Pranav, Ilfracombe's Marlow (7) who made the semi-final & Ilfracombe's Kit (6) who achieved his first wins in a County Championships. Marlow finished joint 3rd & Kit joint 5th.

Marlow & Kit next competed in the Whirlwind Finals in early September. Robin broke his arm! 

CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe pairings George & Seth and Edward & Finley who reached the semi-finals of the 11U Boys Doubles event at the Devon County Championships & to 10U player Ralph who competed in the 10U Boys Singles event. We also had 14year olds Jac & Amias competing in the 18U Boys Doubles event making a total 10 Ilfracombe juniors competing at the county championships!

2021

In May, Reuben represented Devon in the 10U County Cup

Also in May, Rodrigo represented Devon in the 14U County Cup

Ilfracombe "Old Boy" Frankie, represented Northumberland in the 9U County Cup & ofcourse was the youngest player! 

In June, Ilfracombe 11U player Leo represented Devon in the 11U County Cup

CONGRATULATIONS to Bessie Burrows, first, in recent memory, Ilfracombe player to become County Champion, winning the 8U Girls Singles title at the Devon County closed event. Elsie Burrows, Bessie's sister, finished a creditable 4th in the 10U girls event. Both girls report having a great time at the event
