Our FABULOUS Mini RED, ORANGE & GREEN players have won 14 Grade 3 Titles, 14 Grade 4 Titles, 1 Grade 5 Title & 28 Grade 6 Titles in 2024 so far, We also saw a number of mini players join clubmates in the Devon County Training & one player continuing in Regional Training. 2024 began with Kit (2016) finishing runner-up in the first County Tour (Grade 4) 9U Singles event in January at ARC, following his LTA passport early to 9U in autumn 2023 after winning the Devon County Championships (Grade 3) 8U Boys Singles in August 2023 & winning his first 9U Whirlwind Mini Tour Grade 6 Title at ARC in November 2023. Dylan won the additional 9U Grade 5 Singles at the same event. Next, Robin finished runner-up in the TARKA 11U Boys Singles Grade 5 & Dylan, Max & Ralph ALL won the ARC Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles & Kit & Marlow won the 9U Singles. Max then won the Newquay Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles & Hayle 9U Singles.
In February, Robin won the ARC Whirlwind Mini Tour 10U Singles. At the North Devon Open Grade 4, Robin won 10U Doubles with partner Joey.
Again, at the North Devon Open Grade 4, Kit was runner-up the 8U Singles, Kit & Max were runners-up the 8U Doubles & Marlow runner-up in the 9U Singles.
At the St Austell Open Grade 4 Max won the 8U Singles & Ralph was runner-up. At the Sherborne Open Grade 4 Marlow won the 9U Singles, Kit runner-up, & the 9U Doubles with partner Hugo, Kit & Max runners-up. Ralph won a Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event at Nuffield.
In March, Dylan won the Exeter Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles, Kit won his first Grade 4 9U Singles at ARC & Kit & Marlow represented Devon in the 9U County Cup.
Then Dylan, Max & Ralph won ARC Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles & Max 9U Singles titles.
In April, Ralph won the Ivybridge Grade 4 8U Singles , Dylan was runner-up & Robin won the 10U Singles. At the Sherborne Open Grade 4 Marlow again won the 9U Singles & the 9U Doubles with partner Hugo.
Robin then won the ARC Grade 4 10U Singles. Dylan, Kit, Max & Ralph represented Devon in the 8U County Cup.
In May, Max won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event at Tiverton, Dylan & Max then won Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles events at ARC.
Robin represented Devon in the 10U County Cup,winning the South West Group against Avon, Cornwall & Somerset & going to the South Final in June.
Then Dylan won his first ever Grade 3 Title at the Heron Open, winning the 8U Doubles & finishing runner-up in the 8U Singles Grade 3!
At the ARC SUMMER OPEN Grade 4, Max won the 8U Boys Singles event & Ralph runner-up, Kit & Ralph finished runners-up in the 9U Doubles , Robin runner-up in the 10U Boys Singles & Robin won the 10U Doubles with patner Pranav (Sam).
In June, Dylan won a Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event at Ivybridge , Evelyn & Juliet attended the Devon County Tennis Festival Finale at Exmouth & were invited onto the County Training programme.
Then, Robin represented Devon in the 10U County Cup South Final.
DAY 1 - A super day for the Devon 10U boys today even though the overall results weren’t quite as we hoped. We started against South Wales and got off to a flying start with both Rufus and Sammy securing fantastic wins at 3 and 4 singles. Robin and Tudor were next up against 2 players who were very highly ranked. Despite both gallantly doing and giving everything the South Wales boys were too strong. At 2-2 it was still all to play for with the doubles. Sadly the boys lost out in both matches by the narrowest of margins - in a 3rd set match tie breaker! Pranav and Rufus even had a match point - so so close and could easily have been 4-2 win to Devon. An extremely strong Surrey team were up next - and although the boys gave everything and tried all that they knew the Surrey team were a step up and the boys went down 6-0. The boys though are absolutely buzzing and can’t wait for tomorrow and the matches firstly against a winnable Oxfordshire and then Middlesex! Good luck Devon - be strong 💪
DAY 2 - A tough day yesterday for the Devon 10U boys team at Bromley for the final day of the County Cup Finals. Huge credit must be given to the boys as it was an incredible achievement to just reach the finals, but this weekend they came across 4 other very strong teams. Unfortunately they went down to both Oxfordshire and Middlesex yesterday 6-0. Although a little disappointing against Oxfordshire, it was excellent that they regrouped and raised their level one more time to challenge a very strong Middlesex team and were actually unfortunate not to win a rubber against them. Regardless of the results it was brilliant for the boys to see and play against the best players in the country at this age group, and a fantastic opportunity for them to learn, and push on with their own development. The support from the parents and families over the weekend was superb, and great to be one big team. We have a fantastic group of 10U players in the county which bodes so well for the future - well done boys! The boys team were: - Tudor, Robin, Sammy, Rufus and Pranav , Huge thanks also to Team Captains Liam and Will.
Then, Dylan won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event at Cullompton & Kit won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 9U Singles event at Exeter. Max won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event at Tiverton & Ralph was runner-up
In July, Dylan won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event at Nuffield, finished runner-up in the 8U Singles Grade 5 event at Wellington & won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event at ARC where he was outnumbered by the girls! Kit won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 9U Singles event at ARC & Robin won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 10U Singles event at ARC
Then, At the Bournemouth Open Grade 3 Dylan won the 8U Singles, joining Robin, Marlow, Kit & Ralph as Grade 3 Singles winners at 8 & under in recent years. At the Plymouth Open Grade 4 Kit finished runner-up in the 9U Singles. At the final Whirlwind Mini Tour 9U Singles event of the season at Ivybridge, Max won all his matches to finish Devon ORANGE Leaderboard Winner & Dylan finished Devon RED Leaderboard Winner. Marlow finished runner-up in the 10U Singles at the St Austell Open Grade 4.
In August, at the Taunton Summer Open Grade 3 Dylan won the 8U Boys Singles, leapfrogging Robin, Marlow & Ralph , & joining Kit as the only players to win two Grade 3 Singles titles at 8 & under in recent years. Max finished runner-up. In the 10U Singles at the Taunton Open Grade 3, Robin finished 5th. Then, at the Torbay Open Grade 3 Robin won the 10U Boys Singles, joining Kit & Dylan as the only players to win two Grade 3 Singles titles in recent years.
Then, at the Torbay Open Grade 3 Robin & partner Pranav won the 10U Boys Doubles, Robin joining Dylan as the only players to win two Grade 3 Singles titles & one Grade 3 Doubles title in recent years. Again, at the Torbay Open Grade 3 Kit came 3rd in the 9U Boys Singles, Dylan 7th & Marlow 11th.
Again, at the Torbay Open Grade 3, Juliet finished runner-up in the 8U Girls Singles, Imogen 4th, Evelyn 6th & Isla & Isobel competed well in their first ever Grade 3.
At the Burham Open Grade 3, Robin won the 10U Boys Singles title & Dylan won the 8U Boys Singles title & Ralph finished runner-up. Both Boy now have three career Grade 3 Singles titles each.
In August at the Devon County Championships 2024 Grade 3, Marlow won the 9U Boys Singles title & the Doubles title with partner Hugo. Kit then won the 8U Boys Singles title, Max finihed runner-up, Dylan & Ralph joint third.
Then, Robin & partner Rufus qualified for the 10U Singles & 10U Doubles Finals to be played on Saturday 31st August. In the finals Robin beat Rufus to win the 10U Boys Singles title & they won Doubles title together. Our most successful Devon County Championships with 5 County Championship titles
In September, at the Whirlwind Mini Masters Finals Ilfracombe had 4 player competing in RED (8U), 3 in ORANGE (9U) & one in GREEN (10U). In 8U CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 8U player Max who was crowned the Whirlwind Mini Tour RED Mini Masters Champion for 2024 & club mate & runner-up Ralph & Dylan who finished third & won the leaderboard prize for finishing first on the Devon Leaderboard & Juliet for her first Mini Masters Championships. GO TEAM ILFRACOMBE!
In 9U, CONGRATULATIONS to 9U player James from Cornwall who was crowned the Whirlwind Mini Tour ORANGE Mini Masters Champion for 2024 & ILFRACOMBE player Kit who finished runner-up. Ilfracombe player Max, the RED Champion, won the leaderboard prize for finishing first on the Devon Leaderboard. Well done all & GO TEAM ILFRACOMBE!
In 10U, CONGRATULATIONS to Ilfracombe 10U player Robin who was crowned the Whirlwind Mini Tour GREEN Mini Masters Champion for 2024. Well done Robin & GO TEAM ILFRACOMBE!
In September, Evelyn won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 8U Singles event & Dylan won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 9U Singles event at ARC. Dylan also finished runner-up in the 9U Singles Grade 5 event at Bridgwater.
In October, Dylan finished runner-up at the Bridgwater 9U Grade 5 & won the Whirlwind Mini Tour 9U Singles event at ARC on the same day & Ralph finished runner-up . In the 8U Singles, Evelyn & Sam both finished runner-up in their groups & like Dylan, Sam was unbeaten.
Then, Max & Juliet won the 8U Boy Singles & 8U Girl Singles events respectively at the Ivybridge Open Grade 3 & Evelyn finished runner-up in the girls event.
