Bye-Laws

Summary of some important Bye-Laws

No play shall take place on grass courts before 11am each day.

No play shall take place on grass courts when damp.

SPEED LIMIT IS 10 MPH ON DRIVE.

Soft soled TENNIS shoes only are to be worn on ALL courts - grass AND hard courts. Ribbed soles or training shoes are forbidden.

Recognised tennis clothing and tennis shoes must be worn. Other dress such as football shirts, jeans, beachwear, etc is NOT acceptable. Appropriate track suits are allowed during winter or cold weather.

Seniors have precedence over juniors, including over games comprising mixed seniors and juniors, unless the juniors are playing an official club match or tournament. However, the juniors should be allowed to complete a set or continue for 15 minutes, whichever is shorter. Box leagues are not considered an official club tournament.

Among seniors, doubles take precedence over singles games unless the latter is within an official club tournament. Again, the completion to set or 15 minute rule should apply.

Members are to vacate a court at the end of a set if other members are waiting for that particular surface.

Rules 6 and 7 apply before 8. Therefore, waiting senior members should first ask a junior game to vacate; secondly any other singles game(s), before otherwise awaiting a doubles game to finish.

Incomplete doubles pairs knocking up must give way to any waiting doubles pairs after 15 minutes.

Playing members of the Club may invite non-members to play on a maximum of 3 occasions per annum.
On each occasion the current visitor’s fee must be paid and the Visitors Book completed. Thereafter they must make formal application for membership of the Club, and await approval before further play may be enjoyed. The limit of three occasions applies also to Non-Playing or Social members.

Smoking is banned totally within the main body of the clubhouse but allowed on the veranda during summer months when the shutters are open.

No person under 18 years will be served with intoxicating liquor on the Club’s premises.

Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.

Dogs are not permitted in the clubhouse in any circumstances except for guide dogs.

Cycling on grassed areas of the Club grounds is prohibited.

Additional bye-laws for Juniors

Grass Courts: Juniors are not allowed on the grass courts, unless -

They have played for a Senior team in a League match, OR

They are accompanied by a Senior member who is playing with or coaching the Junior. In this instance the members involved are requested to avoid sensitive times, especially Junior Club Night. The Senior member is also responsible to ensure that OTHER Junior members do not play on the grass at such times.

HOWEVER, Juniors MAY play on grass on Senior Match Nights (normally Tues and Thurs) between 6.30 and 9.00 pm, so long as they play ‘in the proper manner’ and subject, of course, to the weather being suitable (i.e. the grass courts being dry).

In all cases Seniors will take precedence.

Senior members take precedence over Juniors at all times except in official matches (see 6 above).

Parents are responsible to ensure their children’s behaviour is acceptable at all times. Parents must also ensure that juniors wear appropriate dress, as above.

Juniors must not congregate in the Bar area at any time.

All players should play only one set and then vacate the court if others are waiting to play.

Children under 7 are not allowed in the clubhouse without adult supervision.

Juniors may invite guests but must AVOID BUSY TIMES. We may have to refuse guests at these times.
