Play & Compete
I am Tim Andrews the Junior Secretary at Lymm Tennis Club. We have a thriving Junior section with a wide range of activities and events to support all ages and standards of play. Everyone is welcome.
Junior Club Nights
Junior Nights during the spring and summer months are on Fridays between 5:00pm and 7.00pm. This is split into two sessions with Mini Tennis players (school year 5 and below) playing between 5.00 and 6.15 and the older Juniors (School Year 6 upwards) playing between 5.00 and 7.00. Mini players will be more than welcome to stay and play after 6.30 but will need to be supervised by an adult. We are also encouraging older players to come along to the earlier sessions to help their Mini club fellows develop their skills.
These nights are supervised on court by Allan Morton and his team and provide fun tennis for all junior ages. Off court, we require - in line with LTA guidance - that Mini Tennis players are supervised by an adult to ensure that we can deliver these nights safely. We will be providing refreshments throughout the evening - with support from the Junior Committee and Support crew (see below) - the bar will be open from 5.30 and we are hoping that parents and carers will join us to enjoy a relaxing start to the weekend.
We operate 17 teams, from age 6 to 18, and play in three leagues and two knockout competitions between March and September each year (with girl, boy and mixed teams taking part in singles and doubles matches). Parents are crucial to maintaining this competition structure, acting as team captains and supporters, providing hospitality at the Club for visiting teams, transport to away matches, arranging matches and recording scorecards.
After the October half term, Junior Club night becomes team practice and runs throughout the winter. Watch out nearer the time for updates on these sessions.
The club hosts regular Junior Tournaments which Allan Morton organises and which are a great way to improve skills, make friends and enjoy the fantastic setting the club offers. We are also looking to increase the number of external LTA tournaments our Juniors play in and we are working on a ‘Lymm Tennis on Tour’ system to try and get a number of players entered into the same events to ensure they have some friendly faces around. At the end of the season (in or around September) we host the Annual Junior Closed Tournament which is the ‘headline’ Junior event with buckets of silverware up for grabs!
Junior Club Kit
We hope to have a range of Lymm Junior Tennis kit for all ages and standards. Watch out for the online shop launch shortly.
We are always looking for help. We have a Junior Section Support Crew that help with running Friday nights and other special events (family fundays, tournaments etc) and running the Junior teams.
This year we are also reintroducing the Junior Committee to help to ensure that the Juniors get their say on all things at the club.
Whether you are a junior wanting to join a team or get involved in the social side of things or a parent or carer looking to volunteer, please contact me on 07798 931630 to find out more.
