Community and Inclusion

At Meopham LTC, we are passionate about making tennis accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone in our community. We are proud to offer a range of inclusive sessions and initiatives designed to bring people together, promote wellbeing, and ensure that tennis is truly a sport for all.

Free Tennis Fridays

Kindly sponsored by NFU Mutual Sevenoaks and Meopham Agency

Our Free Tennis Fridays are a fantastic opportunity for juniors aged 5–14 to get involved in tennis in a fun and relaxed environment.  The sessions involve supervised age appropriate games or supervised free play.  We actively encourage parents to join in.

Sessions run every Friday from 6:00pm – 7:30pm, and the best part is — it’s completely free !

To help us plan and ensure we have enough volunteers to support all participants, we share a weekly poll in our WhatsApp group a few days in advance. This allows us to prepare accordingly and give every child the best possible experience.

We are proud to have NFU Mutual Sevenoaks and Meopham Agency as sponsors of this community initiative.  NFU Meopham:  https://www.nfumutual.co.uk/agent-offices/meopham/

Walking Tennis

Our Walking Tennis sessions provide a slower-paced version of the game, making tennis accessible to those who may find the traditional format too physically demanding.

Played on a smaller court with adapted rules — including allowing the ball to bounce twice, removing running, and using a softer ball — Walking Tennis focuses on enjoyment, movement, and social interaction. It’s ideal for older adults, those returning from injury, or anyone looking for a gentler way to stay active.

Sessions take place every Thursday, except for the third week of each month, when the session moves to a Friday. Each session also finishes with a friendly cuppa and a biscuit, giving everyone a chance to relax and socialise afterwards.

Dementia Walking Tennis

In partnership with Safeharbour, we are proud to offer Dementia Walking Tennis sessions led by our Head Coach, Lawrie.

These monthly sessions are specifically designed for individuals living with dementia, providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. The sessions focus on light physical activity, coordination, and most importantly, social connection — helping participants stay active while enjoying the game in a way that suits their needs.

Breast Cancer Awareness Events

Our Breast Cancer awareness and fundraising events hold a very special place within Meopham Lawn Tennis Club. Following the loss of a much-loved member, team player, and committee member, who sadly passed away at just 45 years old, Lynn and Jan introduced breast cancer awareness and fundraising at the club in her memory.

For over 20 years, we have continued to honour her by bringing our community together through tennis, raising awareness and funds for this important cause. Each year, we raise over £300, with all proceeds donated to Breast Cancer Care — a charity that resonates with so many people, whether directly or through loved ones.

These events combine sport, community spirit, and fundraising, creating a positive, supportive, and uplifting atmosphere for all involved.

Lynn and Jan also tend to a memorial garden at the Club for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Macmillan Events

Supporting our community goes beyond the court. Our Macmillan events help raise vital funds for cancer support services while bringing members and families together for meaningful causes. From social tennis sessions to fundraising activities, we are proud to play our part.

St John’s School Initiatives

Recognising that many girls can fall away from sport, Meopham Lawn Tennis Club is working with St John’s School, Gravesend to introduce tennis to girls who may not typically take part in physical activity. The programme is designed to support their health, confidence, and overall wellbeing in a fun and encouraging environment.

The initiative will culminate in a schools event at Meopham Lawn Tennis Club, bringing together participants from St John’s alongside girls invited from other local schools, celebrating their progress and enjoyment of the game.

Meopham LTC are also proud to have supported a number of other charities over the years in tennis related events, quizzes etc. We always strive to be a club that serves our whole community.
