Kingsley and Gloria Holden, keen club players, introduced their daughter Jackie to Northallerton Tennis Club when she was six years old.  She made rapid progress and was ready for competitive tennis at an early age, needing special approval from the committee so that she could play as a “senior junior” in the ladies matches!  She was selected to play for Yorkshire and

Jackie’s achievements in tennis are outstanding.

Ladies Singles - Champion 1984 beat Katie Howden

Ladies Doubles - Champions 1983 with Joan Sculthorpe beat Bev Lockwood and Lyn Robinson

Champions 1984 with Karen McLoughlin beat Joan Sculthorpe and Sue Smedley

Champions 1990 with Karen McLoughlin beat Helen O'Kane and Helen Young

Champions 1991 with Karen McLoughlin beat Katie Howden and Louise Johnson

Mixed Doubles - Champions 1984 with Simon Ickringill beat John Howarth and Joan Sculthorpe

Runner Up 1990 with Mike Harpin beaten by Steve McLoughlin and Karen McLoughlin

Group 1 Eastbourne Jackie made her debut in 1984 playing with Joan Sculthorpe they played all 15 rubbers winning 9 and going down in 6

Group 1 Eastbourne 1985 Jackie played all 15 rubbers winning 9 and losing 6 and playing 6 with Joan Sculthorpe,6 with Karen McLoughlin and 3 with Cath Berry

Group 1 Eastbourne 1986 Jackie played 12 rubbers winning 11 with Bev Lockwood and did not play on the last day due to a shoulder injury

Group 1 Eastbourne 1987 - Handbook missing - I am trying to find a copy

Group 1 Eastbourne 1988 Jackie played in all 15 rubbers with Sarah Longbottom and won 12

Group 1 Eastbourne 1989 Jackie played in all 15 rubbers winning 12 rubbers with Cath Berry

Group 1 Eastbourne 1990 Jackie played in all 15 rubbers winning 14 out of 15 again with Cath Berry

Group 1 Eastbourne 1991 Jackie again played in all 15 rubbers winning 14 again with Cath Berry and becoming Champions also with the men being Champions in the same year.

Group 1 Eastbourne 1992 Jackie again played with Cath Berry but was carrying an injury from the 2nd day and could not play on the Wednesday but fought hard and managed to survive in Group 1. This was Jackie's last visit to Eastbourne for County Week.

Scottish Open Champion 1986.

Wimbledon 1989 lost to Steffi Graff and Gabriela Sabatini.

US Open 1989 lost to Jana Novotna and Helena Suková.

NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Champion 1989, doubles.

Jackie also played tennis with Sue Barker, and Virginia Wade.

In 1985 Jackie gained a scholarship at Mississippi State University, USA and in 2023 was inducted into Mississippi State University's M-Club Hall of Fame in recognition of her outstanding achievements.

She played on the professional tennis circuit for three months and went onto a successful career, working for the LTA in many roles, including National under 12 age group captain and as Associate Head Coach for the women’s team at Northwestern University, Chicago between 2008 and 2014.
