Adult Box League

The club runs a box league competition for all standards of players and is a great way to meet other members and play friendly competitive tennis on a regular basis.

How does it work

The competition will be singles and doubles match play, and in accordance with the Avon League Tennis format i.e. two sets to six games with a tie break if necessary and if a third set is required, players must agree to play a champions tie break (to ten) or a third full set.

Depending upon how many teams/players sign up to the leagues we will allocate a set number of teams/players per box with the idea to play all your matches within a school term period (terms generally run for around six weeks in duration).

The winners of each box will be promoted and the team/player in last place will be demoted/remain in their box.

The matches are meant to be friendly and in good spirit of the game, whilst providing players the opportunity to gain matchplay experience and trial any new technical and tactical points gained from coaching.

Playing your matches

Remember matches are to be arranged by each player/team. An email will be distributed to you in the next few days to provide contact details of each team/player.

Club social play takes priority over box matches so busy club nights (i.e. Wednesday evenings) are usually not good times to arrange a match! An hour and a half is usually comfortably enough time to play a match (plus a 10 minute knock up).

Please note that matches that are not played, points will be awarded to the opposition. Please try to be accommodating to your fellow competitors and make every attempt to arrange your matches in a timely manner.

Matches follow the Avon League Tennis format - view a copy of the rules.

Recording your match result

After the match, if you won, you are responsible for posting the results on the sheets displayed on the club noticeboard and contact Dan Church on 07738 081 652 so that we can upload the results to the LTA. Good Luck.
