Playing standard guide
Please note this is a rough guide only and you can always change classes if they are not at the right standard.
Beginner
- You are likely to be just starting to play or returning to tennis having not played for a while.
- You will be learning the basics of tennis – to serve, rally and score.
- Try our Tennis Xpress and Beginner and Returner classes which are for beginners and a good way to meet others of the same standard.
Improver
- You are starting to play more tennis.
- You know the basic technique of the main tennis shots: serve, forehand, backhand and volley.
- You can serve and rally but would like more consistency, more directional control and possibly more solid technique on some shots eg, serve, backhand.
- You may focus more on your technique and getting the ball over rather than tactical intentions.
- Try our Improver Classes to gain more consistency, more solid technique and learn to use more tactical play to make life easier for you and harder for your opponent !
Intermediate
- You are playing regularly.
- You have solid basic technique on all the main strokes including serve, forehand, backhand and volleys and smashes.
- You can serve and rally with good consistency.
- You are using patterns of play and tactics to win you points.
- Try our Intermediate Classes to add more variation to your game, eg, spin, power, angles and to build on your strengths and work on your weaker shots, whilst all the time weaving in more tactical intentions to create more point winning opportunities for you !
Advanced
- You have played a lot of tennis over the years.
- You are solid on all the main strokes and can use spin, pace, angles etc to vary your serve and groundstrokes.
- You rally with the intention of creating point winning opportunities and can do so via all your shots.
- Try our Advanced classes to further develop your consistency, technique, and tactical play to help you defend better and create winning patterns of play for your playing style.
