Saturday Morning Squad Sessions

When, How long and How much?

The Squads run on Saturday mornings, in blocks of six weeks, throughout the year. They follow the local school term times and break in line with school holidays. For members, each set of six sessions is £36.00. For non-members the charge is £42.00. To ensure your child’s place, these sessions should be booked in advance online. It is possible to pay weekly, but we cannot guarantee that a place will be available though we will do everything we can to accommodate your child.

What level of session should I sign up for?

In line with all Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) registered clubs, Roade Tennis Club works within the Blue, Red, Orange, Green and Yellow graded coaching system. This system is to help with the development and progression of your child towards becoming a skilled, happy and healthy tennis player.

This may be ideal for those who start young and work their way through the levels but what about those whose first exposure to tennis is a bit later? The colour graded system is a framework and the coach will bring your youngster into a group in line with their skills set and capability and move them through accordingly. This keeps everyone happy, engaged and moving in the right direction. So, for guidance…

Blue (4-6 years old)

Juniors will improve their balance, agility and co-ordination through fun games while learning how to play basic tennis on small courts, with soft balls. At this stage it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about getting to grips with the basics.

Red (6-8 years old)

Juniors start to practise overarm serves, volleys and learn how to rally, whilst developing their co- ordination, balance, speed and agility. Still with special (red) balls and small courts they'll be introduced to relaxed competition too.

Orange (8-9 years old)

Juniors are converted into more than just one-shot wonders. Time to throw in some tactics, problemsolving and guides to sportsmanship and leadership. They'll know all of the rules and will be serving and returning, still on small courts but now with orange balls.

Green (9-10 years old)

It’s time for juniors to play on full size courts, with green balls at this stage. Now it’s all about growing their game by fine tuning and refining the techniques they’ve learned so far. Players should now be in a position to act more independently on court.

Yellow (10 years old +)

It’s all about playing on a full size court with the same size balls the pros use. Juniors will continue to explore different styles on court and start to choose their own. By this point we hope they will be tennis players and fans of the game for life!  (Book here)
