Coach Mentoring

LTA Coach Mentoring is a national scheme designed to provide bespoke continuing professional development (CPD) for LTA Accredited Coaches, supporting them to grow both personally and professionally while enhancing their coaching programmes.

At Tennis Squad, our Directors are part of the UK-wide network of trained EMCC Mentors, each bringing specialist expertise and experience to their mentoring practice. Alongside this formal mentoring work, we also offer informal mentoring opportunities within our team and for aspiring young coaches across the region.

What Is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a form of professional development in which a mentor supports a mentee to foster learning, self-development, and improved performance. It’s typically a series of conversations focused on helping the mentee move forward, gain clarity, and achieve meaningful goals.

A skilled mentor uses observation, questioning, listening, and feedback to create conversations rich in insight and reflection. At times, they may also share their own experiences to guide and support the mentee’s growth.

Why Choose Mentoring?

Coaches choose to work with a mentor because they want to develop new perspectives, enhance their effectiveness, and achieve their goals more efficiently.

Common aims might include:

  • Becoming more organised and effective in their coaching practice
  • Building confidence in specific coaching or leadership situations
  • Improving communication and relationships with players, parents, or colleagues

Through mentoring, coaches experience focused support that helps them gain awareness, explore new approaches, and find practical solutions — leading to greater success and satisfaction in their coaching journey.
