Operating the Lights
Each court is separately controlled by a token-operated control panel on the veranda. Lighting costs £5 per hour per court. Members may purchase tokens for £2.50 each (lasting 30 minutes) or 5 for £10. They are kept in a jam jar on the kitchen counter and sold on an ‘honesty’ basis.
Each pair of courts has a red/blue warning beacon mounted on the centre column, which illuminates to warn players on court that the token meter will expire in five minutes. This gives adequate time to put in more tokens as required. When the timer expires on the lights for either court, one lamp will remain on for 10 minutes to allow players safe exit from the court.
IF THE LIGHTS GO OUT THERE IS A 10 MINUTE DELAY BEFORE THEY WILL RE-LIGHT.
As a reminder, in order not to cause problems for the club’s neighbours, the lights are to be switched off at 2130hrs unless in the middle of a competitive league match; however, the lights will switch off automatically at the curfew time of 2200hrs. Please remember to select the lights to the off position with the key at the control panel otherwise they will come back on again the following day!
