Pickleball

Pickleball is a racket sport in which two players (singles) or four players (doubles) use a smooth-faced paddle to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a 34-inch-high (0.86 m) net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits a rule infringement.

The sport is played with a paddle-style racquet, combining elements from badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The game is played on a court with the same dimensions as a badminton doubles court. The net is similar to a tennis net, but it is a little lower, and the game is played with a stiff paddle and a hollow plastic ball with holes in it. Even though pickleball is similar to tennis, there are significant differences that make it especially accessible for children and seniors.

The most crucial difference is the speed of the ball. A pickleball ball travels at about a third of the average speed of a tennis ball, and the court is less than a third of the total area of a tennis court. The smaller surface area combined with the slower ball speed and an underhand serve, makes pickleball easier to play than tennis.

Pickleball sessions at Trottiscliffe Tennis Club are held on Friday evenings and are open to players of all ages and abilities, as well as both members and visitors.  Rackets are available to hire.
