How do I get a game of tennis?

Check out our 'Get Playing' section for information about how to get your tennis on track at Woodend.

There are also a number of Whats App groups which aim to facilitate play. Please contact Alix McDonald (ewencoos@gmail.com) for ladies tennis or Colin Macmillan (cmac642@hotmail.com) for mens. They can help with getting you on the correct group.

Can I get coaching?

Absolutely! We have a wide range of tennis coaching available for adults and juniors run through our lead coaches Verena Scott and Julie Gordon. Check out our 'Coaching' section for all the details.

Some tennis terms we don't assume you already know!

If you see that a tournament is 'balloted', it means you will be allocated a partner. 'Vets' tournaments are typically open to those aged 40+.

Do I need to brush the courts after I have played?

YES! Unless it is very wet or the courts are frozen.

How do I reserve a court?

Can I get involved in the running of Tennis@Woodend?

We are reliant on our members and voluntary effort to keep our tennis section going and welcome any input or time you are able to give,. Please contact Russell Allan (russellallan@doctors.org.uk) if you would like to get invovled or have any ideas for improvement or developing Tennis@Woodend. 

How do I get into the clubhouse?

You need a fob to access the clubhouse. These are included with membership but need requested. Please email woodendquestion@gmailcom

How long can I play for?

90 minutes is the maximum time you should book for via the app.

How late can I play in the evening?

Play should be completed and courts brushed no later than 10.30pm.

Can I play on match nights?

When a competition match (whether club or inter club) is being played, play can continue on adjoining courts providing that play does not disturb the match.

All members using the surrounding area are required to be respectful of the players and to keep noise levels down particularly during match times.

When can juniors play ?

Juniors are encouraged to play tennis after school and at weekends (adult members have court priority after 7pm) .  Mini members  (those under 7 years) should be supervised by an adult both on and off the court.

Only 4 juniors on a court at any one time (unless part of a coaching drill). 

Non-members are not permitted to play around the club grounds.

Juniors should be aware that tennis is the priority and make sure they keep noise down while others are playing.

Can I play during coaching sessions?

Two courts are always available for members to play even when coaching is scheduled or during holiday tennis camps. The coach updates members over court availability during busy times and for holiday tennis camps. As always check the club calendar on the Woodend homepage for up to date information.

Can I bring a non-member to play?

Non-members can be brought as guests of an adult or intermediate member 3 times per year; thereafter they are encouraged to join the club.

How do I pay for floodlights?

Tokens can be purchased for 50p for 15 minutes of light from behind the bar and then inserted into the box fixed to the brick store in front of court 3. For bar opening hours, please click here.

Can I purchase balls /borrow  tennis equipment at the club?

Used match balls are available for £1 a tin in a box in hte hallway, please use the honesty box provided.

New balls will be available shortly from behind the bar - more info to follow.

Are there lockers and showers available?

There are a few lockers available for tennis players to use whilst playing.  A £1 coin inserted into locker enables the key to be removed for the duration of a game.

Shower facilities are available to all members whenever the club is open, access to clubhouse is by using the fob entry system.

Can I hire Woodend?

Yes! Members can hire either the snug or full bar. More information can be found here. It makes a great venue for community classes, parties or meetings.
