Winter Singles Ladder Championship Playoffs

Each year, on the first weekend in April (excluding bank holidays) a Singles Finals Playoff will be held to determine the overall Singles Ladder Winter champion. A further playoff will also be held on the same day to determine the winner of the Singles Ladder Shield. A fantastic event for all to watch and support. 

 



Who will play in the finals?

The finals day will be split into two competitions:

 

Singles Championship 

For players finishing in positions 1 to 6 in the ladder.

Singles Shield Winner

For players finishing in positions 7 to 11 + Wildcard for (pos12)

 

Wildcard pos 12

This is for any player who is in position 12 and any player in the bottom half of the ladder who has played the most games over the winter season. This person secures the 12th place spot in the Shield Final.



What if I am unable to attend the finals day if I had qualified?

If a player who is in the playoff, positions of 1-6 or positions 7-11 and are unable to attend the finals day, they are substituted with the next lowest ranked player in the ladder.

Replacement players will become the lowest seeds. Eg.

players 5 and 6 become seeds 4 and 5, player 7 becomes seed 6.

Shield example

player 9 unavailable

players 10 , 11, 12 become 9, 10 and 11.

 



Finals Day Format 

On the day itself, the match format for both the Singles Ladder Championship and the Singles Ladder Shield will be:

  • 1 standard set to six games.
  • tiebreaks at 6-6.
  • tiebreak first to 7 with 2 points clear.
  • standard deuce rules,

This format will played in all matches (quarters, semis, finals).

Winner of Court 1 semi final v Winner of Court 2 semi final

Both finals to be played on Court 1, with the Shield final played first followed by the Championship final.

 

AWARDS

The committee proposes to introduce the following awards to the  Winter Singles Ladder:

 

  • Championship winner receives Main cup/trophy to be presented to the winner, whose name will be engraved. Main cup/trophy to remain in the clubhouse, but small trophy for winner to take home.
  • Shield winner receives a Main shield/trophy to be presented to the winner, whose name will be engraved. Main shield/trophy to remain in the clubhouse, but small trophy for winner to take home.
