Winter Ladder

Winter Doubles Ladder.

November 1st - April 30th

Nov, Dec & Jan combined, Feb, March, April

If you would like to play some friendly yet competitive tennis, why not come and join our  in-house Club  Ladder Mini League.

The ladder is open to all adult and junior members (13-18yrs) and aims to be a friendly way to play matches outside of clubnight. The Doubles Ladder League is a friendly in house club competition, and a fantastic way to meet other members whilst playing a greater diversity of opponents.

Our Doubles ladder is an excellent opportunity to improve your game and expand your social network within the club.  The ladder program is gender neutral…both men and women are encouraged to join and you will be ranked in a division according to your skill level.

Joining The Ladder

If you are interested in joining the ladder or want to find out more, please contact  our Club Winter Ladder secretary - Ian Craig on;

email: alsagerltcwinterladder@gmail.com

You can join the Ladder at any time during the month but be sure to sign up before the 30th of the month to ensure that you will be included in the next month's ladder. If you join the ladder after the new Ladder Boxes are published via email (on the 1st of the month), you will have to wait until the 1st of the next month to begin play. When you do begin play, you will be placed in a division in the Ladder with other players of a similar skill level. The point of a Tennis Ladder is to give everyone competitive matches and placing new players according to their playing level will ensure this.

Ladder Divisions

To view the Winter Ladder Divisions and see which players you have to play with, click on the image below.

This Ladder document will be emailed to all players at the start of each month by the Ladder Secretary.

Ladder Divisions are in groups of 4 players and can be added within the current divisions at the discretion of the ladder secretary.  This is solely based upon the player's ability.

Booking A Match

After registering in the Ladder, you will be placed in a division with other players of a similar skill.

Contact the other members in your division to arrange a match, be sure to book a court and arrange a time to play when there are no conflicting club programs (i.e. league play, junior programs).

Format

Every month, all players in your division will play with each other in a one set (first to 7 games) format.

Position in the division and promotion and relegation between the divisions are established by the Ladder Secretary at the end of each month, based upon the total games scored.

Top games scorer of the division moves up a division, bottom scorer moves down a division.

If two players are tied on the same amount of games won, a coin toss decides who goes up a division.

Playing Matches

Your aim will be to play with all players in your division against all other pair combinations, by the end of each month. Thus there will be 3 matches per month to be played in total.

Match Play Player Combinations

player 1&2   against player 3&4

player 1&3   against player 2&4

player 1&4   against player 2&3

Your player number will be detailed on the Club Winter Ladder document that gets emailed to you at the beginning of each month.

Matches can be played on three separate days or three matches can be played on the same day if time allows. We estimate that, on average, a match will take about 30 mins so allowing for a warm up, a 2 hour court booking should suffice for a single match.

The players are responsible for bringing at least three tennis balls to the match. Additionally, players must supply their own tennis equipment (racquet, tennis shoes, water, etc.). If inclement weather does not permit a match to be played, you need to play the rescheduled and re-book the match at your convenience.

Please try your best to actively arrange and play your 3 matches by the end of the month, matches should be organised directly between yourself and other players in your division.

Recording Your Score:

The winning pair of each match are responsible for recording the final score of games and passing the results onto the ladder secretary.

How do I record my score?

Send your match results as follows;

Player 1 & 2 against Players 3 & 4

Games won 7-0

What if it's a tiebreaker ?

Player 1 & 2 against Players 3 & 4

Tie break win 7-5

Match Rules

Scoring will be based upon the FAST4 tennis format, which ensures matches can be completed in a reasonable period of time.

  • First to 7 games wins the match.
  • A “Match” = first to reach 7 games (i.e. "best of 13 games") in one extended Set.  Set Tie break at 6 games all.
  • No advantage scoring – if the score reaches deuce, it’s a sudden death point (receiver to choose side.)
  • Tiebreaker at 6 games all.
  • Tie break  played to 7 points, 2 clear at 6-6 (changing ends after every 6 points)
  • Each game won counts as 1 point.
  • Players will be promoted / demoted  on the basis of total points won.
  • If a player is tied on total games won, total games lost is taken into consideration when deciding on division promotion.

Cancellation / No-Show / Not Available

  • If a player cancels or is generally not available and the match cannot be re-scheduled, the available players scores 6 points each and the unavailable player's score is entered as '0'.
  • Division where no matches are played, and no attempt has been made to organise a game [i.e there are no 6-0 scorelines communicated to the League Secretary], all players in that Division will be relegated to the bottom Division.

A coin toss or straws are drawn to determine which of the 3 players gets promoted.

Player Substitutions

If a player knows that they will be unavailable for any agreed dates during the playing month or combined months, that player can nominate a substitute player.

  1. It is the responsibility of the player to arrange a substitute.
  2. If the substitute player has the greatest amount of games won, the original non player DOES NOT get promoted.
  3. The original Non Player will remain in their current group.
  4. The original Non Player gets the same score as the lowest player in that division.
  5. If the substitute player has the least amount of games won, the original player gets demoted to the lower group.

Movement on the Ladder

After each month, a league table of players and games won and lost will be published by the Doubles Ladder Secretary.

The top games getter in each division will go UP to the next division level. The bottom games point getter in each division will go DOWN to the next lowest division . The players who finish in the middle will stay in their division.

Games won are total number of games won by each individual. Games lost are total number of games scored against that individual.

Position in the League Table is decided firstly by games won and, if tied, secondly by games difference [i.e total games won less total games lost]

If players are tied with equal games won at the end of the month, a coin toss is done to decide who goes up or down to the next division.

Remember that the point of the Tennis Ladder is to play competitively against people who are of your own playing level. It is not about winning trophies (and in this case there are none). It is about having fun, competition & meeting new people of similar playing level.
Point totals, as of the end of the previous month, will be posted on the website and emailed so you can keep an eye on where your competitors are ranked!

Ladder Winners

At the end of April, the player with the most games won overall and the least number of losses (irrespective of their finishing positions in their divisions) will be crowned Winter Doubles Champion.

Let’s get this new Ladder buzzing with players and abilities, I wonder who will be the Champion this winter?
