FAQs

What are the subscription costs?

Bothwell Tennis Club's season starts on April 1st and ends on March 31st, and annual subscriptions are due by April 30th. Subscriptions reflect our community values and are incredibly good value. Discounts are available for family memberships, and there is no additional joining fee for new members.

Subscriptions are reviewed annually at the Annual General Meeting.

Current subscriptions are:

Junior  - £20         Adult  -  £65      Family  -  £100

How do we get Access?

One electronic key fob for access to the court and one key for access to the clubhouse are provided with each adult and family membership. One electronic key fob for access to court only is provided with each junior membership. A one-off payment of £10 per fob is required, and replacement fobs are available at a cost of £10 each.

Members' guests are welcome. Junior guests must however be accompanied by a responsible adult member. We operate an honesty policy with respect to visitors' fees. The accompanying member should collect a £5 fee for each adult visitor, or a £1 fee for each junior visitor, and give it to a committee member at the earliest opportunity. Guests are limited to three visits, after which a visitor is expected to apply to become a fully paid-up member of the club.

Is there a minimum playing standard?

You are welcome to join whatever your ability.

We actively encourage people to take up tennis by offering membership to all levels and abilities, and further promote beginners and non-playing family members by including free coaching sessions within the membership subscription.

We are particularly keen to encourage youngsters to pursue tennis as a  sport.

We have open coaching sessions on Monday nights (junior and adult) from May to October, and an open social tennis session on Thursday nights all year round.

As long as you have a pair of training shoes and a racket you're good to go!

Can I get coaching?

Coaching is available for all ages and abilities.

Our new tennis coach is Luke Wilson.

He is working his way through the LTA coaching levels.

You can get tennis coaching in groups (free open sessions on Monday nights at 7pm from May to October)

Can I play before I join?

You can just turn up and join in one of our open social tennis or coaching sessions.

The social tennis sessions in particular are very friendly affairs, and we encourage prospective members to come along and join in a couple of sessions so they can meet us and have a look around.

If you are unsure, why not contact one of the committee prior to your first visit to make sure that someone will be there to greet you and integrate you into the session.

What are the playing times?

Open sessions are those times when members can just turn up, mix in and get a game or some coaching without having to make prior arrangements. For a number of members, this is when they play most of their tennis.

Outside of open tennis and coaching sessions, any member can use the court, provided it is not already booked or occupied. There is an easy-to-use online court booking system, and the court can be booked up to 7 days in advance on a first-come first-served basis.

Booking is recommended. In the event that a member with a booking turns up to find the court already occupied, those on court who have not booked must give way.

The court is available for play all day every day of the year. Members are requested to give consideration to surrounding residents if playing in early morning or late evening, and play under floodlight must cease by 9.30pm due to a Planning restriction.

Are there any social tournaments?

Ladies, gents, junior boys and mixed doubles tournaments are organised in the summer, although matches are played in a relaxed manner. The finals take place during the club's annual Open Day.
