2025 ETCC Senior Tournament – The results (finally)

27 tennis players of all ages and abilities battled their way to the Finals in the 2025 Club Senior Tournament. The date was set. The courts were swept. The cups were polished. The finalists assembled. Everything was under control… except for the weather.

It started out with only the threat of a shower. So the first two matches began… and were contested heroically and with humour in the pouring rain.

Eventually, not even the new artificial courts could deal with the downpour, and with water lapping around their ankles, the players did the only sensible thing and retired to the clubhouse for cake and towels.

In a brief moment of respite, these two matches were completed. Trophies for the winners, soggy balls for the runners-up. Congratulations to Annie Rees & Hannah Jones for the Ladies Doubles win against Heather Jerman & Ellie Bulmer, to Ben Morgan & Tom Arnott for the Mens Doubles win against Nick Breeds & Hamish Munroe.

A week later, without a supporting crowd, Ben Morgan reversed the 2024 Mens Singles final and took the trophy from Thomas Harris in an apparently epic tie break.

Sarah Rickett & Nick Breeds waited for sunshine for their Mixed Doubles win against Annie Rees & Hamish Munro.

And lastly, the Ladies Singles final was played on a dry but blustery afternoon by two of the club’s younger members Karina Hurley (16) and Hannah Morris (12). Both young ladies displayed immense talent in a thrilling match. Predictions were prevented by aces on both sides. Fancy footwork and speedy shots kept the ball in play. Finally, in a tense Championship tie break that could have gone either way, Karina secured the two point lead to win.

A big round of applause for all the members who took part this year.

Side note

Feedback from some of the members suggested that the participation could be improved if the timing of the Tournament was adjusted so that the schedule of matches spanned Easter to the end of June. This possibility will be explored for 2026.
