Feeling Good Project

Having good mental health is vital!

GTC set up a new project to offer a one-hour session to help support good mental health.

Five years ago the club had support from the Lincolnshire Community Foundation to set up a weekly fun social tennis activity session called "Active at 60". Over 30 people - many of whom had never played any tennis before - gave it a try and everyone enjoyed it immensely. It was so successful that a lot of the participant kept it up, others joined and our Thursday "Active" sessions continue to offer a great chance to have a regular sociable game suitable for everyone's level of skill and personal fitness.

The club saw the Mental Health Trust for Lincolnshire offered financial help for new ideas in the community to support good mental health and knew it could offer something very positive for adults in the Grantham/Sleaford areas.

So, in consultation with GPs and with the local mental health teams, it put together a programme of fun, social tennis skilled activities that can be enjoyed by absolutely anyone - and especially if you have been feeling a bit down or isolated and will welcome a light-hearted chance to get some exercise alongside other people. Somewhere new, make friends, feel good, have an hour of fun, physical activity.

A fun, hour-long Wednesday morning session.

A great welcome and sense of group belonging.

A variety of light-hearted but purposeful activities on the outdoor or indoor courts.

Support and encouragement from club volunteers.

All equipment provided.

Developing skills at your own pace.

Above all, feeling good about taking part with others, about getting exercise and about yourself!
