U16 Boys Match Report

The U16 Boys' side played their final league fixture, a title-decider, at home at the start of the month against David Lloyd Burton Waters. Representing GTC were Harry Chambers, Ben Greening, Ben Rogers, and James Wilson in his first-ever match.

David Lloyd started strongly, winning the first two singles. Ben Greening lost a tie break 9-11 after coming from a set down. Levelling the match became a theme, with Ben Rogers and James losing the first set of their doubles 6-3. They then grew into the match and eventually dominated the second set, holding out in a tie-break. 2-1 down going into the second round, David Lloyd's strong first pair won their doubles. This left Grantham needing to win both remaining singles to force a tie-break shoot out, with both already a set down.

Ben Rogers and James improved their consistency and took both games to tie-breaks. They both held their nerve and started to dominate, winning both rubbers and taking the fixture, and the league, to a 10 point shoot out. Harry and Ben Rogers' strong serving, especially down the T, kept the tie-break on serve until Grantham finally won 12-10.

So after a strongly contested match, Grantham secured the league win! Thank you to all of the players and parents for their help with scoring and arranging transport. They help make these matches possible.
