If you're looking to play more singles or doubles tennis, why not join our friendly and competitive box leagues. We've been running the leagues since 2022 and it's proving a great way to meet club members of similar ability regardless of age or gender.
Our doubles league is now also up and running. In this league mixed or same sex pairs compete for glory in their own doubles league. It's competitive and fun - if you don't have a doubles partner, don't worry, we can allocate you one!
Huge thanks to Nigel Long for organising and running the leagues.
What's a box league?
The leagues are a great way for members to meet and play singles and/or doubles tennis against others of similar ability. There is a singles ladder and a separate doubles ladder (including men's, ladies and mixed pairs, playing against each other).
Players are organised into leagues where they are matched against opponents of similar ability. During the course of the round, everyone in the league plays each other. Each match consists of 15 games, with each game counting as a point, so a close match could finish 8:7 with 8 points going to the winning player/pair and 7 points to the other player/pair. Your points are totted up and your final tally determines where you finish in the league.
There are promotions and relegations at the end of each round to ensure players of similar ability are matched in the same box league. So, if you want to join, there will be a league which is right for you!
