Retford Tennis Club – Environmental Sustainability Plan
Retford Tennis Club is committed to reducing its environmental impact while actively supporting local biodiversity. Our sustainability plan focuses on responsible energy use, protection of wildlife, and long‑term environmental stewardship across our facilities and grounds.
To support local wildlife, the club has installed bird boxes, bat boxes, and bug hotels around the site, providing safe habitats for a wide range of species. These features help encourage natural pest control and promote a balanced ecosystem. We also maintain areas of rough grassland and wild growth, allowing native plants to flourish and providing shelter and food sources for insects, birds, and small mammals. In addition, carefully selected trees and planting schemes have been introduced to improve biodiversity and enhance the natural landscape of the club.
In terms of energy efficiency, Retford Tennis Club has invested in solar panels to generate renewable electricity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. All internal and external lighting has been upgraded to energy‑efficient LED systems, including modern LED floodlights on the courts, which significantly lower energy consumption while still providing excellent playing conditions.
Heating systems across the clubhouse are fitted with remote, timer‑controlled controls, ensuring heating is only used when required. This helps minimise wasted energy, reduce costs, and lower the club’s carbon footprint.
Through these combined measures, Retford Tennis Club aims to play an active role in environmental sustainability while creating a welcoming, responsible, and forward‑thinking facility for members, visitors, and the wider community.
