At Sandal Tennis Club, we follow the LTA Mini Tennis age groups to teach all of our players the essential skills required to learn the game at a young age.

Ages 4-6 (Mini Tennis Blue)

Saturday 10-11am & Sunday 9-10am

This age group a child's introduction to physical activity and these classes develop skills that not only benefit tennis, but also facilitate children's wider physical development. Balance, agility and coordination skill development is a core aspect in this age group alongside lots of fun, progressive games which help children to help through play.

Ages 5-8  (Mini Tennis Red)

Monday 4:30-5:30pm, Thursday 4:30-5:30pm, Saturday 10-11am & Sunday 9-10am

This age group is designed to give the children a full and comprehensive basis of which to start their tennis journey. They will learn skills such as agility, balance, and coordination, while also learning the technique for all of the shots in tennis. There is a heavy emphasis at this age group on basic tasks such as throwing, catching, and ball perception to ensure that they have the necessary foundations for playing the game. We aim to teach players’ how to hit all the shots and to be able to play points by the time they move up to Mini Tennis Orange at the age of 8 years old.

Ages 8-9 (Mini Tennis Orange)

Thursday 4:30-5:30pm, Friday 4:30-5:30pm, Saturday 9-10am & Sunday 11-12pm

This age group is designed to use the skills that the players’ learned in Mini Tennis Red, and develop them so that they can play in the larger court with heavier balls. By the end of the course it is hoped that the children will be able to rally with each other, serve, and be confident playing points. The emphasis at this age group is to continue to develop ball perception skills and technique so that when they move up to Mini Tennis Green they have the ability to cover the whole tennis court and rally baseline to baseline.

Age 10 (Mini Tennis Green)

Friday 4:30-5:30pm, Saturday 11-12pm & Sunday 11-12pm

This age group is a one year stepping stone between Mini Tennis Orange and Full Ball (ages 11+), designed to get players used to using the full size tennis court, larger racket, and heavier ball. The emphasis is to ensure that players are comfortable using the entire tennis court, serving from the baseline, and are competent at every shot from most areas of the court ready for moving up to Full Ball. Players will work on lots of points based drills at this stage, so that they develop a greater tactical understanding of how to play tennis.
