Yorkshire Visually Impaired Doubles League - Stage 3

🎾 Stage 1 – Hull (27th April)

The season’s launch event was held in Hull, Nuffield Health Tennis Centre.  Players competed across three sight categories — B1, B2+, and Open — representing their home regions.

🏅 Stage 1 Winners:

  • B1: Sid Tambin & Meg Hastings (West Yorkshire)
  • B2+: Ed Hastings & Guy Keating (West Yorkshire)
  • Open: Jayanti Mistry & Graham Robson (North Yorkshire)

Hull’s excellent facilities, friendly staff, and committed volunteers ensured a smooth, enjoyable launch.


🌟 Stage 2 – York – St John’s University (31st May)

On a warm late Spring Day, stage 2 brought heartwarming moments, like Sandra Thorpe winning her first VI tennis medal in the B1 category alongside Gav Griffiths for South Yorkshire, plus sighted volunteer, Sue, who stepped in for an absent B1 partner, donning blackout shades to support Tony.  They even won a game together!

  • Open: Jayanti Mistry & Graham Robson (North Yorkshire)

🏙️ Stage 3 – Leeds (2nd August)

Stage 3 of the Yorkshire VI Doubles League took place at Leeds Beckett University, delivering another excellent day of competition. North Yorkshire made a strong statement, building on their momentum to take top honours in both the B2+ and Open categories, strengthening their position in the overall standings.  Notable were the first-time winners, Dave and Paul, in the B2+ category. Well done!

 

There was also a breakthrough moment for East Yorkshire, as Roy and Rainbow claimed their region’s first win of the season, lifting the B1 title with an amazing performance. A fantastic achievement — well done, both!

More players joined the league for the first time, welcome to Chris, Ross, Usman, Hamzah and Adam— a clear sign that the VI tennis community in Yorkshire is growing.
