  • Match Report

Mens D –  34 - David Lloyd D - 30

We reached the mid-summer/half way stage of the year playing at home against the title favourites David Lloyd D. The match was a few notches up on previous games with our players giving a good account of themselves and matching the opposition in ability and concentration.  It soon became clear that every game would count as the half time score suggested. James and Dave narrowly lost 7/9 against their opponents and Phil and Chris edged their game10/6. We had an advantage of 2 but it was not clear which of the opposition was the better pair. The opposition tried to up their game in the second period and the match was moving to advantage /disadvantage and back again. James and Dave came off first with a 9/7 win and so it needed Phil and Chris not to lose, and they did not disappoint, drawing their game 8/8. Final result 34/30 win for Acle. We should be joint top with David Lloyd and Aylsham as we have all lost once [to each other]. The div 5 league this year is much more evenly balanced, without great differences in abilities or in playing standards between the teams, thanks largely to the rule changes at the start of this season.

Ladies D vs Cromer

Ladies D team notched up their first win against Cromer. Liz and Rachael overpowered their opposition in their first game winning 14/2 while Kathy and Margaret lost 5/11 to the other pair. This 6 games advantage was taken to the finish as both other games finished at 8 all at 9pm.

Ladies C – 42 - Carrow -  22

The “old girls” turned out once again, but told Hannah not to be too hard on them as some are in their eighties! What was Hannah meant to do with that information, poor girl. Hannah, Beverley, Helen and Lan were the team and managed a good win, 42-22. No doubt they’ll try and get their own back on their home ground! Well done ladies.

Ladies C – 23 - East Anglia E- 41

Gosh it was hard work getting a team for this match. No-one likes a Sunday afternoon. We only ever had 3 players from day one so the B team offered Jane. Unfortunately, Jane then got an injury. Helen, fresh from a 10k run that morning stepped in. Rachel made her debut for the C team and played some inspiring tennis on a very hot sunny afternoon- nearly as hot as the England footballers playing in Russia at the same time. Fortunately for England the footballers won. Unfortunately for the C team we had our first loss of the season. The first set of 32 were close, Acle losing 7-9 and 6-10 but the second set were won more easily by EA. Caroline’s normally strong serve suffered a bit of a setback as so many were called long- difficult to see in the very bright sun light. EA got on a roll and Julia and Caroline never recovered after the initial 3-1 lead. Overall score 41-23 to EA, and only 3 balls out of eight left on the courts to play with!
Caroline and Julia, Helen and Rachel were the teams. Hard fought but they managed to win us over this time.
