Ladies & Men's County Teams

Summer County Cup

LTA's Summer County Cup event – commonly known as ‘County Week’ – is possibly the oldest tennis event on the domestic calendar, dating back as far as 1895.

44 counties across the nation are divided into groups based on their results of the previous year’s event with Group 1 being the ‘premier league’. Teams compete against each other over a week to see which team comes out as champions.

2023 - Promotion for the Women's O35

A great few days for the Women's O35 team in Eastbourne,  despite the wind, rain and a shortened format, there was some great tennis and even some medals!

It was a rain interrupted event at Eastbourne this year. There was no play until 12 noon on the second day and the format was shortened initially to matches played to 4 games and then 3 rubbers rather than the usual 5.

We played North of Scotland 1st and won 3-2 which was really the deciding match of the group.  Lindsay Cunningham lost the number 1 singles and Claire Powell won number 2 leaving us 1 all.  Laura Godfrey and Ilona Hawker won a very close first doubles match on a deciding tie break from 5-1 down.  Debra Schmidt and Laura lost their doubles but our 2 singles players teamed up to win the final doubles match.

We played 2 matches on the last day and won 3-0 against Norfolk and Derbyshire.  Lindsay and Claire again played singles, Laura and Ilona the doubles.

Berkshire team took on North of Scotland, Derbyshire and Norfolk and came top of their group, winning promotion to Group 3 next year.

On the court for Berkshire were: Lindsay Cunningham, Claire Powell, Laura Godfrey, Ilona Hawker, Debra Schmidt and the team captain, Gill Galloway.

Congratulations and well done team.

The Men's O35 team is in action at Eastbournethis weekend (11-13 August)  against Middlesex, Cambridgefshire and Norfolk, in gorup 3a.

Teams are:  Richard Downs, Phil Downs, Robby Green, Sam Warner, Tim Davis and Andrew Rogers.
