The Club is very lucky (and happy) to have Mad Squirrel, a local brewery, as one of its sponsors. This means (apart from other benefits) that members get to go on regular trips and events at Mad Squirrel. Read on to hear all about it!

Brewery Tour - Friday 19th November 2021

Once again thank you to Greg and Sarah Blesson and the staff at Mad Squirrel for hosting 38 of us at their brewery.

Greg entertained us on a very informative tour around the brew house .

We sampled 4 delicious beers:

HOPFEST (a festival of hops), a gluten-free pale/blonde with purpose. Fresh, fruity hop vibes. A citrus refreshment.

SUMO an American pale ale. Named after the two heavyweight hops (Summit and Mosaic) this brew has a flavour combo of tropical fruit, dark herbs and weighty bitterness.

ALPHONSO a New England IPA (NEIPA). A tropical twist on a classic NEIPA base with sweet “Alphonso” mango pushing through the hoppy flavour.

DE LA NUT, a hazelnut milk stout.  Smooth and creamy from added lactose sugar with sweet chocolate and caramel flavours, finished off with a decadent nutty edge.

Our freshly cooked artisan pizzas were washed down with more beer purchased from the brewery taproom. The evening was great fun and a big success.

Previous Visit to Mad Squirrel Brewery 2017

Thanks to Greg & Sarah Blesson and Tim Baldwin for hosting a good night out.

Our minibus transport from A.K.A. Travel Ltd ran very smoothly and Scott, our driver, even allowed us an extra (blow up) passenger.

We were give an excellent tour of the brewery by Tim Hickford which made us realise how much work goes into our pint of beer.

The six craft beer tastings went down very well.  We sampled:

Hopfest Pale Ale (3.8%)- fresh, fruity hop vibes - winner of the 2017 St. Albans Beer Festival

$umo American Pale Ale (4.7%)- tropical fruit, dark herbs and weighty bitterness

Roadkill Opaque New England IPA (6.5%) - huge tropical fruit bomb

De La Bean Coffee Milk Stout (4.0%) - sweet chocolate, caramel & cream flavours with a rich burst of coffee

Polar Vortex American Amber (4.6%) - Nugget, Chinook, Ahtanium & Citra hops for a heavy tropical hit

Flying Squirrel Pilsner (4.4%) - a clean Czech style pilsner with notes of fresh bread, honey & orange peel

And the artisan pizzas made with hand made dough and local fresh ingredients such as Porter infused pulled pork and peri-peri chicken, were unusual and delicious.

Everyone had a great time.
