'Joe Tyler wins ATP doubles world ranking points and announces deal with Pallacorda'
Joe Tyler, who is Corby born and bred, has just had a fantastic week of tennis at Nottingham Tennis Centre. On Friday 5th August he played in the final of the LTA Mens Doubles $25k event with partner Ben Jones from Suffolk. Despite losing the first set in the first round, they came through 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. They then faced No3 seeds Giles Hussey & Dan Little both from GB and won 7-6, 6-3. This put them in the semi finals against 2 seeds, Arthur Ferry (GB) & Tristan Schoolkate (Aus) who they beat 6-3, 7-6 to get to the final, where there terrific run came to an end against No1 seeds Charles Broomwe (GB) and Luke Johnson (GB), where they lost 2-6, 6-7. This meant Joe and Ben picked up 16 ATP World Doubles Ranking points each. Joe currently has 3 ATP Singles World Raning points as well, and had 4 doubles points, and remains the only Corby player ever to have senior world rankings.
Prior to Nottingham, Joe represented Northants playing with his old practice partner Jack Haworth. Playing as 1st pair, in Division 2, Jack and Joe did extremely well to win 13/15 matches against some extremely strong opposition. Amongst those playing for other teams was Ben Jones mentioned above, who then asked Joe to partner him at Nottingham the following week.Northants missed promotion to the top Division 1 by just one rubber, so remain in Div 2 for 2023. Jack and Joe have now won at least 13/15 in each
of the past 5 years at County Week, which shows terrific consistency.
Joe is pictured wearing a brand new clothing sponsor Pallacorda t-shirt. They joined forces while Joe is at home from college in USA, and playing events around Europe, and training at Corby. Joe continues to tap in toCentre Manager Craig Haworth while at home, to work on various aspects of his game. Having watched a few of Joe's recent matches, Craig had this to
say - "I am so proud of Joe, and how well he has played recently. I really enjoy watching him compete, and gets better every time I see him. I have been coaching Joe since he was 9 years old, so to see him develop into a proper touring professional gives me a great buzz. Its exciting for our juniors to watch him practice, and he still helps me out by hitting with them when he is around. After Joe has a few days off, we plan to get some specific work done on a couple of areas of his game to sharpen him up for his next events, before going back to USA for one more year.'
We are hopeful of announcing soon that Pallacorda are also joining forces with Corby Tennis Centre, so keep a look out for that special announcement. They are a new start up company that is looking to break in to the tennis clothing market, to provide tennis & leisure wear of high quality, at affordable prices.
