What an amazing summer success we have had with our teams. In the Northants
Leagues, we won 3 out of 5 leagues we were in, including winning the Ladies
Division 1 title, and the Mens Division 1 title. In the East Northants
leagues, we won Ladies Div 1 and Mixed Division 1 titles, our Ladies B team
look likely to finish in 2nd place, and our Mens B Team had their first ever
win against Clipston recently! Our congratulations go out to all our
captains for putting the teams together, and being so successful. To have
won 5 of the 9 leagues we were in, come 2nd in another 2, and be the
Northants Mens and Ladies Division 1 Champions is fantastic.
NLTL Ladies A winners of Division 1 - An amazing result for our Ladies A
Team, captained by Gee Farnsworth. The Ladies won the league by just 1 set,
thanks to a 7-1 win in the last match of the season against County B.
Despite them calling in Laura Mineards, the Northants Ladies Captain. Had
our ladies not secured the 7-1 win (and we did lose the opening set!), the
title would have gone to County A who finished on 46 points to our 47. The
squad consisted of the following players - Anca Hollingsworth, Othelia Agar
Stallbom, Deborah Powell, Lisa Richardson, Iryna Zahidi, Sophie Walker, Ruth
Lewis, Alexandra Manilovic & Debs Briggs.
NLTA Mens A winners of Division 1 - our new Mens A Team captain, Andy
Palliser led the team to an incredible 8th title in 9 years, and the last 6
years in a row. Comfortable winners by 8 sets in the end over County A on 42
sets to our 50. Another large squad of players including many of our 'home
grown' talents in Kye Rae, Jakob Bonnett, Razvan Lazar, Harris Chacksfield,
Casper Nicole, Matt Richmond, Alan Jordan, Harry Collins & Monty Johnson.
NLTA Ladies B winners of Division 3 - Captain Ruth Morecombe played in every
match, and utilised another good squad including Karyn Slatter, Debs Briggs,
Lisa Richards, Andrea Dempster, Deborah Walker , Liz Pritchard, Ivana Knauer
and upcoming junior Lois White.
NLTA Mens B team - captained by Iain Wetherell, the team came a creditable
4th in Division 2.
NLTA Mixed Medley 50+ team - joint captains Wendy Brown and Karyn Slatter.
This was a brand new league this year, and saw 1 ladies pair, and 1 mens
pair, then 2 mixed pairs play. It is a really nice social level, played
through the day midweek. Our Mixed team finished in 2nd place behind
Northampton A.
East Northants:-
ENLTA - Ladies A winners of Division 1 . Captained by Ruth Morecombe. Our
Ladies A Team dominated this division, losing just 3 sets out of 72 played.
ENLTA - Ladies B likely runners up in Division 1. Captained this year by
Ruth Lewis, our Ladies B team have done brilliantly to finish in the likely
place as runners up. They still have a re-arranged match to complete against
Thrapston A, but are 6 sets ahead.
ENLTA - Mixed A winners of Division 1. Captain Gavin Potter saw off the
challenge of Kettering A, despite them being runaway winners of the Mens Div
1 title. A 1 set margin split the mixed teams , so Corby A beat Kettering A
by 54 sets to 53, and by 5-3 in the head-to-head.
ENLTA - Mens A captained by Jamie Tyler after being promoted to the top
division last year, came a creditable 5th place, and will be looking to go
evebn higher next year.
ENLTA - Mens B , a new team captained by Ravi Maru, playing as a team made
up mostly of players who have never played team tennis before, pulled off
their first league win in their last match of the season against Clipston
5-3. This has been a great introduction to team tennis for this squad who
will be pushing for a higher spot next year. Well done all of you.
