Byfield v Harbury – Weekend League -30th July
Harbury were once again in action at Byfield but this time in the weekend league. The format for the morning was a men’s pairing (Olly Wiltshire & Nigel Eaton), ladies pairing (Katy Wiltshire & Sue Panton) and two mixed pairings (Olly & Katy) (Nigel & Sue). Two sets are played per pairing so a total of eight sets are up for grabs, unfortunately the score line certainly doesn’t do Harbury justice as Byfield romped home to take all eight sets in fine style. Every game was extremely close with countelss games going back and forth at deuce. Byfield always seemed to put the winners away where as Harbury couldn’t quite finish it off. Despite the score some thoroughly enjoyable tennis was played with plenty of lengthy rallies and impressive shots from both teams. Byfield are now the winners of the league whilst Harbury bookend the table with one more match to play, unfortunately against Byfield once more. Hopefully this will be a winning rematch played at home and might just pull us up to third!
