Some history....

Originally known as the Parade Tennis Club in the 1920s, the club was renamed Heworth Tennis Club (HTC) in the 1950s, and tennis was played on two red shale courts. A wooden pavilion was replaced by a member built version in the 1960s for the princely sum of £100 and the shale courts were resurfaced with all weather tarmac. In 1966 Heworth was one of the first clubs to install floodlights. In 2014 a new clubhouse was built with the assistance of grants from COYC and Sport England, and HTC took on a lease for the two Glenn Gardens Park tennis courts from COYC. The East Parade Clubhouse courts were resurfaced in 2023 and a new mini court was built for younger players.

Now....

HTC is a thriving club and has around 250 members of all ages. We have four courts  playable for most of the year with floodlights on the Clubhouse courts; we have teams in the mens, ladies and mixed tennis leagues as well as a HTC mixed singles club ladder. Coaching is very active with weekly group adult and junior sessions and private lessons available from our club coach. Clubplay is also popular and interclub competitions and tournaments are arranged regularly. The club is managed by a dedicated committee of members who provide their time on a voluntary basis.
