First Chairman and founder member of our Club
Ted was a stalwart of the early years of Hill & Valley Tennis Club, being a founder member and its first Chairman.  He was instrumental in getting the courts built and was a genius with obtaining available grants and fundraising to establish the club facilities.  The centrepiece of club activities was, and remains today some forty years later, the annual summer Coln Valley Tournament of which Ted was an energetic organiser along with his wife Anthea.  Years ago we shared many a glass of whisky late into the evenings before the event trying to match groups, arrange seedings, not to mention ‘matchmaking’ (and avoidance of ‘unfortunate’ meetings of former partners!).  He delighted in the sublime, and the many ridiculous situations that arose.

Ted was wonderful company, and maintained a permanent twinkle in his eye; and it should be mentioned he was a very good tennis player!

His hard work and talented contribution to the club established the strong foundations that benefit our thriving membership today.

We offer from our wider membership, both past and present, our gratitude and kindest thoughts to Anthea and Ted’s family and friends, the club will be making a donation to Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.
