The bi-annual schools competitions continued with the turn of the Year 2 pupils from the North Devon Learning communities. 11 Teams attended the event with approx. 50 children participating including Ilfracombe club juniors attending Ilfracombe, Woolacombe & Kingsacre primary schools.

Ilfracombe Infants had the most juniors in attendance with 16 eager players & 4 teams particpating. Goodleigh, Kingsacre & Woolacombe had one team of four each, Southmead & Swimbridge two teams! The teams were split into two groups & each player had 4 or 5 group matches & the top 4 teams from each group went through to the quarter-finals.

3 Ilfracombe teams & both Kingsacre & Woolacombe teams made it to the quarter-finals, along with teams from Goodleigh & Suthmead. Ilfraombe A & Woolacombe made it to the semi-finals & eventually finished third & fourth respectively. As teams dropped out of the running for the overall winning team they were treated to some extra doubles matches.

The final came down to a close match between Goodleigh & Southmead with the latter taking the title & the winning cup!

CONGRATULATIONS to winners Southmead, runner-up team Goodleigh, all the players from all the schools & all the helpers on the day. It was a great day of tennis & we hope to see everyone again in summer 2017 for the next YR2 schools tennis competition.
