Cardiff Athletic Club’s (Lisvane tennis Club's parent body) Management Committee agreed at their meeting on Monday to fund the re-surfacing of Courts 1-3. The Tennis Club committee have looked at a number of surfaces over the last few months and selected a high quality artificial clay surface which is in use at Windsor Penarth, Radyr and other local clubs.
The playing characteristics of Artificial Clay favours longer rallies and therefore helps improve the skill of players, particularly when being coached. It is also easier on the joints, reducing the chance of injury.
Whilst we don’t have an exact date for the work to start but we are hopeful that the courts will be re-surfaced by the end of November. Depending on the weather the work is expected to take about 2 weeks.
Once completed the Club will have five high quality courts which together with the recent conversion of the floodlights to LED will hold the club in good stead for many years to come.
