Juniors Tournament - August 13, 2024
Our 2024 juniors doubles tournament took place under beautiful sunny skies. A total of 10 players competed in several rounds of friendly games, cheered on by parents. Participants played with a different partner every round, with the total games won by each person totted up at the end. After 5 rounds, Freddie Facer just pipped Ernest Brunner to the tournament trophy, but it was a hard fought contest!
The inaugural John Seear Trophy for most improved player was also presented on the day to Ed James, who has come on leaps and bounds since taking up tennis just this year. Annabel Marshall was awarded the Helen Butler Acorn Cup for most helpful and considerate junior player.
In true tennis fashion, the day finished with delicious bowls of strawberries and cream.
Inter-Club Competition: Marnhull vs Donhead, August 14
In the first of our 2024 inter-club junior competitions, Marnhull's A Team took on members of Donhead Tennis Club. Marnhull was represented by Ollie Palmer, Ed James, Alex Carr and Antonia Bright, with Tom Jeffries as reserve.
The weather was mixed but the quality of tennis was superb, with plenty of exciting rallies that delighted the spectators, both human and canine!
Marnhull managed to come away with the victory, winning 6 of the 8 sets played, but it was the spirit of friendly competition and good sportsmanship displayed by both teams that truly made the day a success.
Inter-Club Competition: Marnhull vs Wincanton, August 22
On a wet Thursday afternoon, the Marnhull Junior A Team played their away match against Wincanton. The inclement weather didn’t dampen the spirits of our players, who showcased some great tennis to win all 4 sets.
Ed James, Alex Carr, Antonia Bright, Ollie Palmer and Tom Jeffries represented Marnhull, while Wincanton were represented by Isaac Reid, Jemima Tibbatts, Harry Bagwell and Elija Hobbs. Congratulations to everyone that took part!
A big thank you to Norma Amlot, who arranged the matchup with help from Wincanton Head Coach Rich Dougles and Marnhull's Helen Butler.
