Criteria For Junior County Selection
Norfolk Tennis is committed to providing junior players, from ages 8-18, with additional training opportunities and support on their tennis journey. Invitation to and/or selection for county activities starts with:

  • Club coaches nominating players (players must either be already competing or at U8 ready to compete);
  • County team coaches nominating players after scouting them at events.

All player nominations should be directed for consideration to Chris Stocker, Norfolk Tennis Performance Officer, at norfolkperformance@norfolktennis.org.

Both weekly and termly age group squads are available to U9+ players, to remain in the squads players need to:

  • Be committed to continuing training with their club coach;
  • Maintain high attendance levels at county squads (weekly squads);
  • Attend termly squads in the run up to age group events (generally in holidays/weekends);
  • Compete regularly and maintain a ‘good for age’ World Tennis Number (WTN)/ranking;
  • Look to supplement training programme with Strength & Conditioning training.

Team selection will be based upon the following:

  • Where applicable, taking into account WTN/ranking (or if U10 recent form);
  • Performances in recent events;
  • Attitude and application within the training environment.

Where there is little between players, the County team captain’s decision will be final and will be made with the interest of selecting the ‘best’ team for the event.

No selections for teams will be based on your child training within the county framework. Norfolk Tennis supports all players in their club and competitive settings. As all LTA County Cup events are in their nature ‘competitive’, players who are regularly competing and performing will always be considered.

Players selected will receive an email from Norfolk Tennis where information of the training dates, times, venue and payment will be detailed. Players will be expected to pay for their County Training to cover the costs of coaches and court fees.

Behaviour
When representing Norfolk Tennis, players are expected to abide by the following guidelines in training and competition, and follow the LTA Code of Conduct (PDF).

  • All players will behave in a manor that reflects positively on the County
  • All players will support the other team members positively during their matches
  • If you are away with the team and Captains you will abide by their rules both on and off the court.
  • You will not post any negative comments about the LTA, Norfolk Tennis or its players on any social media
  • You will listen to the County Captain and Assistant Captain and their decisions are final
  • Respect will be shown by the player and parents at all times and in all circumstances
