Reeds RPDC Selection policy

  1. Introduction

Reed’s RPDC aims to support the development of 10-14 year old players who are selected onto the LTA RPDC longlist

The team at Reed’s RPDC will work to provide support to players and parents, on court, off court and on the road at tournaments, as well as supporting access players external coaches.

 

  1. Eligibility

For a player to be considered for selection they must be on the LTA RPDC longlist, their year of birth must be  2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015, and they must be eligible to represent Great Britain

Selected players must sign the Reed’s RPDC player agreement. The agreement will last for 1 year and re-selection will be made in line with the Reselection process outlined in 4.0

  1. Selection process

3.1 The Reed’s programme manager, Reed’s Director of Tennis, Reed’s RPDC lead coach and Reed’s RPDC athletic development lead coach will be the panel determining selection. This group has complete discretion regarding player selection and will exercise that discretion fairly and without bias.

3.2 The following will be taken into consideration when selecting players

Athletic potential – The player shows good athletic potential and shows physical attributes that could become a potential weapon

Competitiveness – The player thrives on competition and is willing to push themselves and be challenged in a training environment

Mentality – The player shows desire to learn, they are curious, single minded and embrace challenges

Game – The player has clear attributes that could be built into clear strengths e.g. timing, movement, skills, awareness

Additional selection considerations of

Location – The players location need to allow them to commit to the programme outlined by the RPDC

Age – The player needs to be of an age where the programme will allow them relevant sparring partners

    1. Players will be required to attend an open trial on one of the following dates

Potential candidates from those trials will then be invited to squad training through June for further assessment of suitability to the programme

Offers will be made to applicants in writing by 23 June 2024

  1. Full time Reed’s RPDC player – IDP and players schedule managed by Reed’s coach and majority of training happens at Reed’s
  2. Access RPDC player – IDP and schedule managed by external coach and player attends squad training

The number of fulltime RPDC players is typically around 8 depending on available resources and suitability of players to the programme

 

  1. Reselection process

Players that are selected into Reeds RPDC are subject to annual reselection. Continued involvement in the RPDC is based upon the players progress towards the RPDC objectives. The coaching team will carry out termly reviews with parents, and where appropriate, players. Each review will evaluate players/parents adherence to the agreed weekly/annual schedule, players progress against goals and performance in competition. All decisions on reselection into the programme will be concluded by the end of June 2025. There is no appeal process.

Open trials – Saturday 11th May 2024 4-6pm, Saturday 18th May 2024 4-6pm

Player offer – 23rd June 2023

Offer response – 7th July 2023

Termly reviews – final 2 weeks of each term, specific dates for each player TBC
