Championship Success in the Autumn Mixed Doubles League

Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club (SLTC) are celebrating another outstanding season in the Tennis Shropshire Autumn Mixed Doubles League, with the club once again demonstrating its strength, depth and competitive spirit across the county.

Running from September to December each year, the league features multiple divisions and clubs from across Shropshire. This season marked a significant milestone for SLTC, who fielded a record six teams for the first time in the club’s competitive history. The campaign was crowned with success as the 1st Team were confirmed League Champions, adding yet more silverware to the club’s growing trophy collection.

The 1st Team, captained by Mike Barton, completed an unbeaten season, winning five matches and drawing one. Despite injuries and weather disruptions, the team delivered consistently strong performances throughout the campaign, continuing an exceptional year for SLTC at the highest level of Shropshire competition.

The 2nd Team, led by Seb Slater, successfully retained their place in Division 1 following promotion last season. Seb commented: “After promotion to Division 1 last year, our main goal was to stay up – and we’ve just managed to do it. There were great performances throughout the season, with points picked up in every match. A really positive season and lots of fun for the whole team.”

The 3rd Team, captained by Peter Butler, secured promotion from Division 3 to Division 2, finishing with an impressive 18–6 match record. Peter highlighted the strength in depth at the club, with 15 players contributing to the campaign. Unfortunately, weather-related cancellations prevented the team from playing their final match and challenging for the division title.

The 4th Team, with Jo Morris as captain, narrowly missed out on promotion from Division 4N but enjoyed an excellent season overall. Jo praised her squad, describing it as an “incredible season with incredible players” and she and the team are already looking ahead to next year.

The 5th Team, captained by Stuart Hay, built on last season’s promotion by finishing third in Division 5, narrowly missing further advancement. Stuart is keen to note that the team exceeded expectations and thanked all players and supporters involved.

The 6th Team, led by Andrew Bainbridge, finished fifth in Division 7 in what proved to be a highly competitive division. Andrew praised the commitment of his players and confirmed plans are already in place for continued training and improvement, with promotion firmly in their sights next season.

With championship success, multiple promotions, and strong performances across all divisions, the Autumn Mixed Doubles League – 2025 has once again underlined Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club’s status as one of Shropshire’s leading tennis clubs.
