Fifth Team Captains
Ladies' Fifth Team
JO-JO MORRIS

How long have you been a member of SLTC? I've been a member since 2021
What made you join SLTC? I was a newbie to tennis and had just started having coaching lessons with Harrison, and when he joined SLTC as Head Coach I joined too. Best decision ever!
What's your favourite tournament to watch? Any that I can get to, but Wimbledon is definitely no. 1.
What’s your favourite shot to play? It has to be a smash; it's very effective...when it doesn't go out.
What's it like playing in an SLTC team? I love being part of the teams, I love playing with my friends and getting to go to new clubs and to play on different surfaces.
What's your go-to snack/drink during a match? I love providing jelly babies for all the players during matches. I drink water and Monster.
Now that the competition is underway, how is your team approaching it and how is it going so far? We are approaching this with the attitude to have fun and enjoy all the matches, but obviously we want to win the league and bring home another trophy for SLTC. I'm looking forward to continuing the play with the new format whereby teams play each other twice - once at home and once away.
Ladies' Fifth Team: Jo-Jo Morris (Captain); Amy Lyle, Anne Richards, Katie Sparkes

STUART HAY

How long have you been a member of SLTC? Since 2005.
What made you join SLTC? I joined the club because our youngest daughter, Emily, was taught tennis at the club from the age of 6 and was then a junior member. Seeing Emily develop her game at a tender age inspired me to take up the game. Before joining, I’d only ever played twice before whilst at Wellington Grammar School.
What's your favourite tournament to watch? Wimbledon.
What’s your favourite shot to play? When playing forehand, I like to return a serve hard and low down the tramline. I also like throwing in a few spinney serves now and again!
What's it like playing in an SLTC team? I thrive on playing competitive tennis and I find it is the most enjoyable thing to take part in as a member of our fantastic club. I’m a very competitive person and thoroughly enjoy the challenge of playing in league matches in particular. Being a captain of the 5th team is a great privilege.
What's your go-to snack/drink during a match? I never eat during a match. As far as match drinks are concerned, I normally drink plain water.
How is your team approaching this year’s competition? The 5th team were promoted from Division 5S to 4S last season. However, as a result of the League’s reorganisation, we now find ourselves in Division 6N, which to be honest, was disappointing. Our aim, as a minimum, is to at least stay in the Division. As always though, we will be striving to get promotion. As per last year, we have an excellent squad of players. I’m quietly optimistic that we’ll do well, even though a lot of the teams we are scheduled to play against will be new to us.
Men's Fifth Team: Stuart Hay (Captain); Josh Burbidge, Anthony Carter-Aleksic, Laurie Davis, Charles Holcroft, Christian Nicholls, Graham Raisin, Paul Slater, Nigel Walker

Courtside supporters would be very welcome and much appreciated and might just give our teams that extra edge...!
