35 players compete in Sonning's Inaugural Junior Grand Prix 2025

Sonning LTC's inaugural junior Grand Prix was a great success, after two days of healthy competition under a hot sun!

Monday saw the 9U and 120U players take centre stage, with 14 players in the 9U (Orange Ball) LTA Grade 6 event, followed by 5 players all playing each other in a 10U (Green Ball) round robin. Both events were played in super spirit with each player competing in at least 4 matches - most of which were closely contested.

Tuesday afternoon saw the turn of the Yellow Ball players with nine 12U followed by nine 14U players playing in groups of 3, then reorganised into new groups so each player played 4 matches on the day. Home player, Ibrahim won all his matches to come out on top in the 12U event, while Olivia pipped Ibrahim and Oliver to win the 14U event, after Ibrahim and Oliver had entertained the spectators in a very close match which Oliver won in a tie break, after earlier facing a match point.

Huge thanks to several Sonning members who gave up their time to help score on each court - with several parents and competitors commenting that the matches went very smoothly thanks to those helpers on each court. Thank you Sheila, Angie, Matt, Anjana, Aadya, Henry and Ibrahim for your help on Monday and to Angie, Linda, Jacky, Miranda, Merv and Matt for Tuesday.

A special mention to our 11 Sonning players Disha, Sam, Jacob, Ted, Bhavisha, Aadya, Martha, Hafsa, Henry, Damian and Ibrahim who all competed well and were a credit to SLTC.

We're already looking forward to our next hosted tournament - watch this space!
