A team from Sonning Tennis club visited Saumur in the Loire Valley France last Saturday (27th May) for a friendly match with Saumur Espace Tennis, on their wonderful clay courts on the south side of the beautiful riverside town.

Dubbed "SLTC on Tour", a mixed team travelled to France for a few nights of tennis fun, with plenty of time to take in the beautiful region - and enjoy some spectacular weather and plenty of good food, wine and camaraderie.

The match itself was hosted by SET's president, Sabrina - pictured above presented with a framed collage of our club in Sonning to mark the occasion. Representing Sonning were Linda, Angella, Tim, Rob, Mark, Steve, Sam and Colin with Lesley and Carol also along to support.

A mixture of super matches on the "Terre Battue" (red clay) courts at SET ended with honours fairly even and huge thanks to Sabrina, Sara, Celine, Thierry, Geoffrey, Sebastian, Albert and Paul who were brilliant hosts for a special afternoon. Also special thanks to club manager Nicolas, who worked with Colin to create the event, although he could not be there on the day due to his own birthday celebration.

An evening barbecue with the Sonning team followed, "Chez Carol and Colin", which was made all the more special as Thierry and Monique could join us.

We hope to repeat the match in the future and create further ties between the clubs, perhaps with a return match in Sonning in 2023.
