Club Championships 2024

The club's summer of Club Championship matches drew to a close today as the Under 18s competition was completed, after last Sunday's main finals day.

Congratulations to all 59 players who played in one of our championship events, to our finals day competitors and especially to our club champions for 2024…

  • Ladies Singles - Anjana Beedu, who won her first Ladies championship, coming out on top 6-4 7-5 over Jane Campbell in a closely fought contest.
  • Mens Singles - Tim Armitage, who came back from losing the 1st set to reclaim the title he's won several times before in 3 sets, 3-6 6-3 6-0
  • Ladies Doubles - Sheila Scott and Catherine Botwright proved their class beating the ladies singles finalists Anjana and Jane in two sets 6-3 6-4
  • Mens Doubles - Tim Armitage and Martin Radford formed a formidable random pair after being drawn together as partners, closing out their win in two close sets winning 6-3 6-4 over Anthony Wright and David Beilby
  • Mixed Doubles - Sheila and Cameron Scott. The mum and son partnership reclaimed the Mixed Doubles they had previously won, winning in two sets over Sarah and Tim Armitage
  • Under 14 - Yuuki Parsons-Katsuta was surprised to  hear that she had won the round robin tournament  after three players were tied on 3 wins from 4 matches, but Yuuki's win in her head to head with Suzana Reddy Raya meant she finished top.
  • Under 18 - Takumi Parsons-Katsuta cruised through the group with a 100% record, although several of the other group matches were much closer ties.
  • In the Loudwell Cup, played by an adult with a junior, 8 pairs faced each other in a round robin on finals day, with Takumi Parsons-Katsuta and Simon Parsons retaining their title, beating Yuuki Parsons-Katsuta and David Beilby in the crucial match to ensure they finished top.

Well done to all - and huge thanks to Alasdair and Carol who put on great refreshments for everyone.
