Last Sunday, Woodland Tennis Club was delighted to host the now annual Liz Yeo Calvados Cup mixed doubles tennis tournament, a special event held in honour of Don and Iris Skelton, and our late Club Secretary, Liz Yeo. The tournament attracted participants from across the South West region, with 12 mixed couples showcasing a very high standard of play. Congratulations to Clare Gass and Martin Hoyland, who emerged victorious after some thrilling matches. We'd also like to extend our congratulations to our own club players who did exceptionally well, particularly Chris Wheeler and his partner Juliette Knight, and Phil Orchard and his partner Lucy Baker, who all reached the latter stages of the tournament.
The feedback from players was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the hospitality and organisation of the event. The tournament did a lot of good for our club's reputation, with one visitor even commenting, "I'd like to adopt your club and take it home with me"! A huge thank you to our organisers Nick G, Lucy, Les, and in particular Sian, who provided seriously good catering that was enjoyed by all. But it wasn't just the organisers - it was a great club team effort, with many members pitching in to help with prep, clearing up, and taking photos. We're thrilled to see that we've already had participants asking to sign up for next year's tournament. We're looking forward to making this an even bigger and better event in the future.
