Singles Ladder

What is a tennis  ladder

For members new to tennis ladders, they work by ranking players in a table. You can challenge a player above you to a match. If you win, you will take your opponent’s place and your opponent will drop down one position. If you lose, you both remain where you are. Players should naturally reach a level in the ladder where they can play against opponents of a similar ability. The ladder rewards both winning and regular play. Players are free to choose how often they want to play

This competition is open to all members at all ability levels from yellow ball and above. If you aren’t sure, please don’t rule yourself out! You can get in touch in with Ali  our club Captain, who will be happy to advise. The ladder is designed to provide an opportunity for competitive but fun play. For newer members, this is a great way to meet other players at the club.

The ladder will go live on Monday 16th January .

Players may enter after this date but they will automatically be placed at the bottom of the league

How the ladder works

  • The initial order will be determined by the organisers Ali Lyons, Jax Brabazon and Ian Guest. They will do their level best to come up with a fair ranking. We are asking members to accept this - if you feel you should be higher you can play the matches to prove it!
  • The initial ranking for each ladder will be communicated to all entrants before the competition goes live on 16th Jan . After this time all players are encouraged to start organising matches.
  • If you defeat a player higher than you on the ladder, you take your opponent's position, and your opponent plus any players above your original position (and beneath your opponent) move down one position.
  • If you defeat a player lower than you on the ladder, all players maintain their current position.
  • If you lose to a player higher than you on the ladder, all players maintain their current position.
  • If you lose to a player lower than you on the ladder, your opponent takes your position, and you plus any players above your opponent's original position (and beneath you) move down one position.
  • If you repeatedly challenge an opponent and they’re constantly unavailable please let the organisers know
  • The results of each match should be emailed to clubcaptain@bftc.club

We will give regular updates on this page plus an update on everyone's final position in the ladder

Have fun!
