Who says that we only play in the summer?
Many of our members are participating in county leagues over the winter months (adults and Over 60s) and also the Stroud Sunday league. Results so far have been mixed but all of the games have been enjoyable, especially because of the unseasonably mild weather.
20th anniversary celebrations
Our planned celebration event on 22 September was in jeopardy when the heavens opened and the fun tournament on offer was completely scuppered. Nevertheless, we hastily devised a fun quiz to fill the gap and this, along with the sumptuous tea prepared by our wonderful volunteers, ensured that the afternoon was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who helped to organise such a memorable event, enabling past and present members to socialise and share memories.
Christmas fun and games
Thanks to everyone who came to our annual Tennis Club quiz - our biggest fundraiser of the year - at the Cadbury Hall on Friday 15 November. And congratulations to the winners - the Bumble Bee Hive team - who beat the Clever Crutches by one point! Our next big event will be our Christmas meal at The Anchor Inn, Epney on Friday 6 December, and we're looking forward to what promises to be a great night. The deadline for payment is Weds 20 November. Additionally, our coach Ben Hardwick is organising a Family and Social Tennis Christmas event/Presentation of awards on Sunday 15 December (4 PM to 7 PM) which will showcase a wide range of achievements this year. And last, but not least, is a Round Robin tennis tournament over the Christmas period (date tbc depending on the weather forecast).
Many thanks to the Frampton Fundraisers...
... who have generously donated £550 to the club for a new BBQ and picnic table after volunteers from our club (Jenny Courts, Giovanni Sangiovanni, Dilys Twiggs, Karen and Stu Watts, James Massey and Ed Parkin - hope I haven't missed anyone!) kindly assisted at the recent Sheep Racing and Fireworks events. We are so lucky to have such a public-spirited organisation in the area and long may the Fundraisers prosper!
.. and to Mike Williams
A very special mention for Mike Williams who persevered manfully when tackling the teething problems we experienced after we switched to new lights in late summer. There may still be a few tweaks needed after the winter and we are all very grateful for his continuing assistance.
And a big thankyou to Lakefield School as well
As you will know, the management at Lakefield School recently extended the out of hours availability of their car park - this has already eased parking problems for our members, especially on busy Saturday mornings. Please ensure that you either park in the school places or in the spaces available at the Cadbury Hall/school nursery. If they are not available please park on the street further up Lake Lane and not on the section of road leading to the cul de sac which backs on to the courts.
Coaching info- just in case you missed it!
A reminder that Ben is running coaching courses on Mondays (1730 to 1830) and Wednesdays (1800 to 1900) as well as the usual Saturday Cardio and drills. Please note that this timetable will finish after the coaching sessions on Saturday 7 December as Ben will be going on paternity leave, starting up again in early January.
Well done Bill!
Bill Williamson is one of the founding members of the club and he recently represented Gloucestershire at walking tennis. Bill took up the sport under the wing of our coach Ben and has thrived. One of Bill's Frampton walking tennis colleagues, Caroline Lumsden, is also hoping to play at the county level soon.
AGM 2025
We haven't set a date yet for our AGM but it's not too early to consider joining the committee or maybe even lending a hand to lighten the general workload (which can be quite a considerable undertaking if there are only a few people to do the tasks). Over the past year, several members have been extremely supportive and their efforts have been much appreciated. Just cutting the grass now and then or doing a bit of DIY when required can be a massive help. Just contact any member of the committee if you want to assist - we will always find a task for you!!
Easy Fundraiser is making a difference...
Thanks to everyone who has signed up for this initiative so far. As a reminder, the Easy Fundraiser app (approved by LTA) provides a means of raising money for the club at absolutely NO cost to ourselves. It's super easy to set up with access to thousands of stores to choose from, including John Lewis, M&S, Tesco, Argos, H&M, Currys, House of Fraser, and JD Sports. Just make your purchases through the app and nominate the tennis club as a beneficiary - it's as simple as that. For details see the relevant website.
Coming soon - Frampton Tennis Club Clothing!
Watch this space for the launch of branded clothing on our website - we are joining forces with a reliable provider (at no cost to the club) and plan to offer a range of good quality goods displaying the club crest. If all goes well, this could be up and running before Christmas.
