Tennis Coaching Courses

RPT Tennis Assistants Course (Includes LTA Leaders Qualification)

16th August to 19th August 1pm to 4pm

As part of the course participants need a minimum of 12 hours tennis coaching assistance work (in addition to course hours) which we will arrange with them.

The RPT Tennis Assistants course is a tennis coaching qualification for children aged 13 plus looking to get started in tennis coaching and offers a further and more detailed qualification than the LTA Leaders, which we are including within the course. The course shows pupils how to structure lessons, examine and rectify players techniques as well as teach the tactics of the game. This years course combines both a starter tennis coaching course with advanced biomechanics allowing those doing the course to be able to analyse a players stroke in more detail and increase the improvement that can be made.

The course will consist of 15 hours of coach training including an assessment on the final day.  Participants will also have to complete 15 hours of tennis assistance, this can be completed at the Adel Tennis Academy summer camps or with groups lessons.

Should you pass the course you will be awarded the RPT Tennis Assistants Qualification which is an internationally recognised tennis coaching qualification. The RPT Tennis Assistants is a qualification sufficient to get LTA Coach Accreditation. In order to gain LTA coach accreditation you will also have to complete the following (these are separate from the course and need to be arranged independently):

  1. Safeguarding Training - typically a 3 hour course or online may now be accepted by the LTA
  2. Emergency First Aid at Work Course - minimum 6 hour course or longer
  3. Complete a DBS Check - this can be done by following instructions on the LTA website
  4. Age 16 or older. Please note that whilst you can qualify as an RPT Tennis Assitant at 13 in order to gain LTA acreditation status you must be 16.

Whilst you are able to gain LTA Coach Accreditation you will be qualified as an Tennis Assistant only. In order to be qualified and insured to lead individual or group lessons, further courses with the LTA or RPT will need to be completed.

Biomechanics Course

This course is aimed at those who are playing at a high level and/or who have completed the RPT Tennis Assistants Course. The course teaches children the key technical elements of each shot including position, balance, zone, grip/spin, and axis.

The course material is based on the biomechanics research of Brad Australian, Australian Biomechanist, coach to Pat Cash, former coach to Greg Rusedski and consultant to many top ATP and WTA Pros. An example of some of the principles is shown at the following page, click here

Those taking the course, will be encouraged to 'buddy up', their buddy will film their shot on their phone and they will do the same. Buddies will assist each other with their technique, along with working with the coaching team. Participants will also then work with younger players and apply the biomechanical principles to assist them with their technique (without videoing them).

Sessions will finish with matchplay and other games. Pupils wishing to use video analysis would ideally have a smartphone and download the Hudl technique App. We would like pupils to use video analysis with each other, players will only have footage of their own shots in their phone (not other players). In order for filming to take place we must have parental permission for any child under 18.

Days - Monday (Serve), Tuesday (Forehand), Wednesday (Backhand), Thursday (Volleys), Friday (Speciality shots, drop shots, lobs and recap / specific issues from other shots).

This course is £25 per day or £100 for all 5 days and this can be paid via internet banking or can be purchased online, click here
