John Diehl

John Diehl served a long stint as President of Swansea Tennis & Squash Club during the 1990s and was a regular, active competitive squash player.

As club president, John transformed the role from that of a figurehead to an active member of club management. He regularly attended club committee meetings, lending his legal background to club matters and revising the club rule book in detail, ensuring it conformed with current legislation.

John had very high personal standards and, as one might have expected, was a stickler for right and wrong, even to the point of offering to resign should a member he considered unsuitable be elected to a management role.

Before John, the position of president was a title given to a respected club member who would take no active part in the actual running of the club. Not so with John. He attended every committee meeting and showed interest in all club affairs, as well as being an active playing member of the squash section. His knowledge and expertise in legal matters were a great help to what had become a rapidly expanding membership.

Thanks for the words from Cliff Sarfas - Chairman during John's Presidency

The club sends our condolences to his family and remembers his contribution to the club.
