Bedfordshire Tennis Trip to the UTS Grand Final, Copper Box Arena, London – Friday, 6th December 2024
On Friday, 6th December, Bedfordshire Tennis proudly took a group of 25 junior county champions to the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) Final in London – an exciting event showcasing fast-paced, innovative tennis. The trip was a fantastic opportunity for our young players to experience professional tennis up close, and it did not disappoint!
The group enjoyed an action-packed day, watching some of the sport’s biggest stars in action. Matches featured thrilling performances from Ugo Humbert, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Alex de Minaur, Holger Rune, Alexander Bublik, Jan-Lennard Struff, Andrey Rublev, and Gaël Monfils.
This event pushed the limits of traditional tennis with one serve, 15-second shot clocks, wild cards to instantly boost your score, and matches played over four intense eight-minute quarters!
The players captivated the crowd with their energy, athleticism, and incredible shot-making. Congratulations to Alex de Minaur, who was crowned the overall tour winner after an outstanding performance in the final on Sunday.
Beyond the matches, our young champions had the privilege of going behind the scenes to meet some of the players, gaining inspiration and insights into the life of a professional athlete. A highlight of the day was when some of our players were invited to step onto the court and participate in a fun, interactive game – an unforgettable moment that left them beaming with excitement.
This trip would not have been possible without the support of Kevin Palmer, and the UTS Tour for inviting Bedfordshire Tennis to experience the event. A big thank you to Kevin and the UTS Tour for the extra efforts made on the day too, including arranging to meet the players behind the scenes and for inviting our players to step onto court.
Thank you to Martha Habershon, Social Media Manager for Bedfordshire Tennis, for organising the trip for our players at such short notice, and to all the Coaches—Martha, Mat Dunkley, Rob Stean, and Cat Magee—for supervising the group on the day.
The UTS trip is a testament to our commitment at Bedfordshire Tennis to providing unique opportunities for our players to grow, be inspired, and engage with the sport at every level. We look forward to organising more events like this in the future!
