Singles Ladder

The Club runs a singles ladder, which is open to all adult members, juniors should consult Dean if they are interested in joining. The ladder rules and how to enter are explained below:-

Ladder Rules

  • You can challenge players who are up to a maximum of 3 places higher than you on the ladder.
  • Once a challenge has been set no other challenge can be taken on until the match has been cancelled, forfeited, or played and the results entered.
  • The date and time of any match should be mutually convenient for both players. The challengee must respond to a challenge within 3 days after being challenged and a match time and date must be set up for the match to be played within 14 days of the challenge or give a default.
  • Matches must be played to best of 3 sets, with a Champions tie break (to 10 points) if score tied at one set all.
  • The losing player must wait 14 days before re-challenging the same player.
  • If any player fails to turn up for an arranged match the other player wins by default.
  • Any player forfeiting twice will automatically drop to the lowest position on the ladder.
  • All match scores and forfeits should be recorded on the ladder spreadsheet ‘results’ tab - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1aa1DpHqMGRBrxWTr84vi4fN-U_48_WAdxobEOoleD6U (password is the same as the court padlocks). The ladder will then be amended appropriately by the next working day.
  • The ladder will be updated on a regular basis and can be accessed through the club’s web site.
  • The challenger is responsible for checking court availability and booking appropriately, as well as supplying the balls. If a joint decision is made to play in the indoor courts the cost of the court booking should be shared – likewise for the cost of outdoor floodlights.

New Players

  • New players wishing to join the ladder should do so by emailing billskead1@tiscali.co.uk with their contact details, entering ‘Tennis Ladder’ within the subject line.
  • New players wishing to join the ladder will be assigned 1 flying challenge anywhere in the ladder to help ensure that stronger players find their appropriate level sooner.
  • If the new challenger wins the match, they move to their opponents’ position on the ladder while the opponent drops down one place.
