MLTC Handicap Finals Round-up – 2021
This year’s handicap finals produced a fitting climax to the club’s tournament season, with all five games producing some thrilling tennis.
The finals were held over two weekends, with the Men’s Doubles being played almost a week after the first four matches. All were also played in truly testing conditions, with the players having to contend with biting cold for the first round of games and a light drizzle and blustery conditions for the last.
On the first weekend, the Ladies Singles saw Lisa Trodd came from a set down to defeat Julie Nucci 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. In the Men’s singles, a keenly fought contest saw Matt Pallot beat Paul Serjeant 8-6, 6-2.
In the Mixed Doubles Claudine Talbott and Richard Miles defeated Claire and Ron Castignetti 6-4, 6-0.
Julie Nucci and Jeanette Greet then defeated Claudine Talbott and Lisa Trodd 6-3, 6-1.
The following Saturday, the Men’s Doubles Final, which was played in high wind and a light rain, saw Rog Evans and Peter Munday battle back from a set down to beat Simon Davies and Mark Pateman 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
